Hi everybody! :D

I"ve been sketching/working on some ideas for a few upcoming pony projects, and was wondering about glow in the dark paint.  I've got a few bottles of colored acrylic glow in the dark paint (actual GITD paint, not blacklight-responsive paint) that I've used for a few custom projects in the past. They have worked well for their intended purpose, but I've never painted a very large surface area with them.  So...

Does anyone have any tips or suggestions for doing full body repaints (FBRs) in colored glow paint?  I kind of prefer to use colored glow paint for the project I have in mind, rather than the regular old "yellow green" standard "glow paint" color...

I typically paint an acrylic primer coat or three (depending on the project/base pony color), and then apply repeated, thin layers of the color of choice.  Does this work well with glow in the dark paint, also? Is thinning of this paint recommended, or not?

Are there any brands you recommend/avoid?

My big question is this:  I always use matte spray sealer on my custom projects. Would this interfere with the glow in the dark properties of the paint?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Pictures would be awesome, too!  (Pics don't necessarily have to be ponies, anything you've painted with glow paint would be amazing!)

I've never done a FBR with solely GITD paint, however, I've painted over other FBRs with no issues at all.  I've used it as an accent color using a brush, as well as applying it with an airbrush to coat the entire pony.

Nope.  No interference whatsoever.

Not the most amazing shot, because I only had him under the light for a minute or so while I fetched my cell phone to take a picture.  The only adverse effect of using the GITD paint is that it does add a bit of texture to the pony, but with one coat it's not unbearable, it just gives it the tiniest little bit of a "sugary" feel after one coat.

Hi, I have a few, I suggest using the glow spray paints, it would work a lot easier as I find the normal glow paints very gloppy and doesn't leave a good finish, however the spray paints dry tacky so you will need some mod podge to seal it, for some reason the spray paint is also slightly grainy but you will get a uniform finish-
good luck x

I used DecoArt gitd paint (as it came in a small bottle lol)
I agree with LLL about the paint being thick and glop-y and l=not leaving a smooth finish
but I also didn't try thinning it like other paints...not sure how that would work

I've also found that to take really good glowing pics....shine a *white light* flashlight on it for a few seconds (must be white light)

Ooooh, all those are awesome. I love GITD.
I used GITD loose pigments mixed into clear acrylic base (I bet it would work with ModPodge too. But dissolve the pigments in water first.
Used several coats and it is blobby, grainy, sugars, thick. But I like the effect to be honest.

I took the pictures with a blacklight.

Way cool and I was going to say use a black light, works wonders.  The imp did some with glow in the dark clay. So far no paint though one or two are planned.
