air brush machines

So a question to everyone out there who customizes and paints using an airbrush, what do you use? How do you like it? Where did you get? What kind of paints do you use?

I wann do more customs but I HATE having to full body repaint bodies. It never looks right and takes forever for me using the brush. So I am looking into buying one for myself but realized I really don't know anything about air brushing...

So airbrush users tell me your stories please.

I bought one and haven't used it a whole lot, they're as much hassle as they are convenient. http://www.dickblick.com/products/blick-complete-airbrush-system/ This is the starter kit I got.

I learned the hard way I needed a more powerful compressor for increased PSI and CFM, thicker paint for proper coverage while painting 3d objects, and a different, larger needle for inside the airbrush to accommodate the thicker paint. So the starter kit was virtually useless for making customs. You also need high ventilation (or a small spray booth) to keep the paint mist from all ending up in your lungs. Then there's the airbrush cleanup when you're done. You'll be wishing you were painting by hand again in no time. The Iwata airbrush is great, the Iwata paints and compressor sucked. I've moved to Jacquard paints and I'm quite impressed with them.

(Sorry to be such a pessimist, hopefully someone else can share a more positive airbrush experience so you get both perspectives.)

On the topic of airbrush machines, does anyone know a good tutorial for getting started with airbrushing? I got a set and compressor a few years ago and when I opened it my friend and I could not figure it out.

I've been scouring the internet for a good startup video but they al seem to focus on HOW to paint instead of actually getting set up.

I always recommend Paasche Airbrushes to people, you can buy directly from their site. I have had two and loved them both. There are plenty of other good brands out there, Paasche is just what I have experience with. I use Creatix and Delta Ceramcoat paints mostly.
