I really want to be believe that she's being honest, but she's backed down so easily, especially on an item that apparently cost her so much, it really seems doubtful

I doubt anyone stole the doll, you would notice if your parcel had been tampered with, and if she had removed items from the box and placed them on a shelf she would've noticed Elsa's absence right away since that was at the top of her daughters wishlist (clearly, or she wouldn't have gone out at midnight to purchase a replacement).

I'm glad that the matter appears to be closed and that you aren't out anything :)

I agree. I'd like to think it was an honest mistake (though I'm boggled how she could have thrown the box out without fully emptying and flattening it first), but I'm leaning towards her trying to get a second doll (for whatever reason) by lying as she backed down so much after you mentioned getting the police involved and all.
Idly searching for: loose, good condition G4 Blossomforth, Starbeam Twinkle, Plumsweet. TTM Celestia doll's wings Within UK or EU only, please.
Will also take in Pretty Pony Club (UK magazine) fakies.

Uh- to me, her responses tend to show she is a liar.

She claims she took the single doll OUT of the box and stored it- and yet didn't notice that there was only ONE doll until right before her "daughter's birthday?  How the heck would that happen?  No way.   If she had opened the box as soon as she got it- she would have noticed IMMEDIATELY that there was one doll, not two, and contacted you.

The fact that she took a week to answer your question, and then just dropped the whole thing (when she saw that you had weights/support to keep her from forcing you to give her a refund or an extra doll)  is even more suspicious.

I call fraud.

In her original message she says that she slightly opened the 'parcel' (which I would assume to be the posting box in that context) saw the wrapping paper and let it be. Then she says she removed the box in the wrapping paper(from the 'parcel'/box?), stored it up high, and threw the box out. They don't match to me... I'm calling scam.

*nod*  good point - you are right - the stories do not add up.
There was a book in there too (and a note as well as two dolls - it was a big heavy parcel with an absolute ton of wrapping and tape). She never mentioned it (the book) in any of the messages though I asked about it    Another thing that puzzles me is that aside from on Ebay (or similar sites) , you cannot buy these dolls anywhere ATM. No Disney store has any of these dolls in stock and hasnt for some time as far as I know (they were selling them online again briefly the other week but they sold out right off-same as US) . The Mattel Elsa is out of stock everywhere as well. It was on the news here the other day about the lack of Frozen stuff and how people are going crazy about it.
But .... she *may* have got lucky and found one. I cant judge.  I'd like to think she is innocent but you have to be so careful of scammers these days, and until proven otherwise I'm suspicious of  cases like this one

It sounds fishy to me too, her stories don't match up, and she calls a store that has one and is open at midnight?  As someone who searched for a Elsa doll for months for her nieces birthday, they were impossible to find.  I ended up getting her the elsa toddler doll, which sold out the same day Walmart got them in.  She really wanted the color changing dress one.  Which I have yet to find for her.   I even was at disney world in January and there wasn't a frozen doll or merchandise to be found.

Funny thing was my sister was out looking for the elsa doll too, and the guy told her the only place that has merchandise for frozen is the parks.  Her response was nope my mom and sister scoured them already.  She's 4 and just adores elsa.  I did promise to get her the doll if I can ever find it in the stores.
