Newborn Twin Beheading Help?
« on: April 16, 2014, 01:14:09 PM »
Hi,
Thought some here could maybe help me, I have tried to remove newborn twin's heads in the past, but they seem to glued around the base and then around the neck plug inside. Is there a safe way to remove their head so I can clean inside them?

I have tried blow dryer, really hot tap water, and trying to loosen a spot and work from there, but the body tears on me. I have cut myself and the pony with an exacto knife as well.

Thank you anyone for any help/advice!
Deb :)

I just had a time pulling one apart to put in a new tail. I went carefully around the neck seam with an exacto first to losses it, then used boiling water to loosen the head a bit more. I was able to slowly cut down the glue until I could see the neck ring (like on a normal G1). I did have to basically cut the ring out, but I was able to get it out intact after several dips in boiling water and a lot of patience.

I had such trouble getting Snookums' head off! I boiled her (hot tap water doesn't do it. Boil a pan or a kettle. You need boiling) and began to gently cut away at the glue keeping it in. I slowly worked my way round and kept snipping away at the glue. I'm sure I took off a bit of her ring in the process but the glue was so ridiculously stubbon. Then when she was soft enough from the boil I pushed up through her chest to push the bottom of the plug and pulled her head to the side till it popped out.

Okay, looks like boiling water it is! Thank you booth, I usually can get others off, but the twins are crazy!  I have a baity nibbles/dibbles twin still nice body, but would like to clean her and maybe couple others pending how the removal process goes!  Does the boiling water damage the paint like on their eyes? Oh and I presume you just dunk their head past the seam?

I've never had a pony's paint damaged by boiling water. I usually dunk the whole pony so she's extra soft to work with

I find this is a good trick as well :)

Also you can use a needle to prize a hole between the head and body and drip acetone down into the neckline. That will help soften the glue even more.
