The G1 comics
« on: May 06, 2014, 09:32:39 AM »
I recently bought some G1 comic books and I really enjoy reading them, even though the story is not always that good. xP It's fun to learn more about the G1 ponies personalities. The books I got are in Swedish, but I'm pretty sure they're just translated from the UK comic books.

One thing I noticed is that not only unicorns could use magic. I've seen several earth ponies and pegasi do it too. If I remember it correctly only the unicorns could use magic powers in the G1 TV series.

Have you read any G1 comics? What do you think about them? Have you noticed anything that you want to share?  :)

I just discovered them online, though the place I found them has only the first and second pages of each one. I just really love how cute they are, even if the stories are kind of simple. :)

That's right, in the cartoons only the unicorns could use magic and the unicorns could also "wink in and out".

In the books and comics, however, magic is not limited to unicorns and unicorns cannot "wink in and out". There are not many non-unicorns with magic though. Some of the ones I can remember are Lickety-Split (who can make ice-cream appear), Tootsie (lollipops grow when she muddles her words), Medley (who's tail makes harp music when she shakes it) and Baby Lucky (who seems to be able to grant wishes but is never aware of it).

Aw, thanks for sharing that! I look at the comics but never read them, that sounds pretty cute. :)

I haven't seen Lickety Split or Tootsie use magic yet. I have seen Medley, Baby Lucky, and Caramel Crunch though. :)

Apparently Cotton Candy loves to eat flowers. It would have made more sense if it was Blossom. :p

I adore the comics :)

Although it should be noted that although there are some basic rules that most of the stories and characters conform to, in order to be plot devices for stories there are a lot of bending things to suit :P  The stories are clever at never really contradicting themselves by never actually stating things as fact.

I personally like the comics much more than the show itself.

I enjoy certain episodes and the first movie, but...the cartoon didn't feel like it was about the ponies most of the time.
It felt like the human characters were the ones always driving the plot and the ponies just sort of went with it.

I also like how the comics had a wider variety of ponies. In the show it just felt like the same few
were featured all the time, and the Year 2 ponies were unimportant. In the comics, we saw lots more
variety!

My favorite one is definitely the one where Applejack commits murderthe twinkle eye ponies were introduced!
