In the style of the G4 ponies (large eye with irridescent/glitter pupil & iris and tiny jewels as highlights)?

I like the first jewels better than the oval ones, the oval looks a little more insect like to me.

Hmm, hadn't thought of it like that, but I can definitely see what you mean.  Maybe I"ll save them and do a Chrysalis next. LOL. :)

Haven't done anything with this pony lately, as I've been waiting for her hair order to arrive. In the meantime, I've been working on a few other custom projects.

Mimic's hair order arrived in yesterday's mail, so I'm going to try to paint and jewel the eyes tomorrow, and hopefully begin the rehairing process -- wish me luck! I've only done one rehair before, and I didn't really enjoy it, to say the least.  It was a learning experience.  I've read several tutorials and watched some videos on the process, I just don't want to split the plastic and ruin her paint job.  I reordered my photobucket albums the other day and it removed my original post's images, but here are a few in the spoiler below.

Got Mimic's new tail in place. Now to start re-hairing her head... My least favorite part. :(

WIP - Custom G1 to G4 *MIMIC* (Fashion Style Size - 6") - Updated 4/17/14
« Reply #19 on: April 17, 2014, 01:39:13 PM »
Update (if you'd even call it that):

Been busy with orientation at my new job at the hospital, so I haven't been able to do much with my customs the past few days.

I did do some work on Mimic earlier today. I finished laying down the whites of her eyes, and painted the gems I'm going to use for her eyes.  They're a lovely shade of green, very similar to the same shade as G1 Mimic's twinkle eyes.

I decided to base G4 Mimic's eye shape off of G4 Twilight Sparkle's eye shape, since they fit the pony and the size/shape of the gems the best of all my FS ponies.  I made a template and then traced them on Mimic's head before painting them in.

I'm not sure if I should coat the gems with the pearl/metallic peridot paint I have, or if I should use the microfine glitter peridot paint (it dries clear but leaves a sparkly finish).  I'm thinking the microglitter peridot would look best, as it actually twinkles/sparkles, and the metallic/pearl paint only looks...well, pearly and not sparkly.

I also did a couple more coats of paint on my WIP Walking Dead/Daryl Dixon pony today as well.

Awesome! I look forward to updates to this thread. ^.^

Thanks, Ponycake! :)

I finished painting and attaching her gem eyes this morning.  All that's left is to seal the gems with something super-shiny and then do some paint touchups as needed.  And then, for the rehairing of the head.

Not sure if I want to do her eyelashes in black, or leave them the greenish-black color instead... Any thoughts?  Also, any recommendations on a clear, shiny sealer for the eyes? I've heard some people use clear nail polish to add gloss, but not sure if that would be suitable for the gems...

Here are some updated WIP pics.

Ok, I'm excited! G4 Mimic is pretty much done!  =)

I finished rooting her hair this afternoon, and she is now decapitated in my closet, waiting for the glue to dry.  Aside from a final coat of glossy sealer to her jeweled eyes and some trimming and styling to her mane and tail, she is finished.  I actually found myself ENJOYING the rooting process (and managed not to split the plastic at all - bonus!).

I used Alene's Clear Tacky Glue (was recommended by dollyhair.com in their tutorial), and it says it's dry in 24 hrs and cures in 7 days.  I don't want to mess with her hair too early and have it fall out, because I used an entire hank of each of the four hair color from dollyhair.com for her hair, and have none to spare, really.  But I'm so excited about her neon hair!  I just want to brush it... but I'll wait one week.  Boo!

Guess I'll snap a few pics and post them tomorrow, and then wait a week to try styling her hair...
Anyone have any suggestions re: hairstyles?  I rooted her hair extra thick, and it is long and straight and neon-y gorgeous, but it does need a bit of a trim to even the ends out.  I'd also like to roll it to give it some curl, but I don't want to do straw curls -- I'm thinking something with a larger diameter for bigger curls.  Any nifty suggestions for what I could roll her hair on to make it have large curls?

Hope everyone has a great night! :)
