how to track down a lost package?

I won an item off ebay and it was shipped two weeks ago with ebays shipping label. The last scan for tracking was march 7th, in the state it was sent from. It's been two weeks and tracking hasn't been updated, and neither myself nor the seller has received the item.
Since this has a tracking number, will it be able to be located? The seller has been really great about the whole thing, I'm just wondering my odds of actually getting what I won.

The length of time isn't the same, but I experience a package that seemed to drop off the tracking system and didn't arrive around the time frame I expected it to get there.  A few days after I expected it to arrive it suddenly started updating again that it had arrived in the state it needed to be in and eventually was delivered.  I would say there is still the chance of it arriving though it seems to have gotten lost in the system somewhere.  Hopefully it shows up again soon or someone can give good advice on how to go about getting the post office to track down where it might be stuck and get it moving.

Have you called USPS? I'm currently in a similar situation myself. I've actually called them and have a case opened up to see if they can't locate my package. If they can't find it though, I'll have to open up a case with ebay to get my money back at least. I've already asked my seller if they purchased insurance because USPS wouldn't let me open up a claim to technically retrieve value of the package. They told me that the shipper has to open one up.

Depends on where it was shipped... a lot of places had terrible weather recently so they are slowly getting back on track.    *hooves crossed for speedy delivery*
