Rehair question
« on: March 09, 2014, 01:52:11 PM »
I have started the process on my first rehair. I got the starter kit from My Little Customs, along with some Ultra Violet purple nylon hair. I'm starting to get the hang of getting strands together, they are not completely uniform, but will suffice:

But I'm left with a purple hairball:

Is this common or am I doing something wrong? I feel like it's a waste of a lot of hair, but could just be a normal side effect of the process. Any input or tips are appreciated.  :rainbow:

On another note, the fakie I'm trying to rehair has two rows of 35 hair plugs. I'm going to have to buy more hair to finish the tail.  :scared:

some hanks will fizz out a bit , and you do get the odd  strand   / plug thing   that   wont cooperate.  just just fizz right out,  i usually end up   discarding   a few  threads  when i rehair  for that reason.

if your mane hand is realy static-y  try misting it with  a fine spray of water  to help settle it
alternatively  i usual lick my fingers before grabbing and separating the hair i want for the next plug.

I'll end up with a hair ball too sometimes but don't worry, it gets smaller as you get better at it. Some people also get the hair wet when they separate the plugs too.

My best advice is to cut the hair before making your plugs (I cut my hanks in half, some cut it into thirds, depends on how long you want your hair), you can also moist it if you feel like it. Grab the big hank in the middle, hold it firmly and comb the ends to make sure there are no knots. And finally, when separating the plugs, start from the middle (where you're holding it) instead of one end, that way it doesn't tangle as easily. The longer the hair, the easier it gets tangled so I prefer to cut the hank in half right away as I pull it from the bag. Sometimes you lose a little hair but like Salli said, you'll get better at it with practice. :) Good luck!

I wash my hair before I use it so tends to be damp when I'm rehairing and that helps with hair loss alot, but yeah it's common. Some hanks just don't cooperate sometimes while others will be a breeze and you'l lose very little hair.

Thanks for the input guys. Being new to this, I want to make sure I'm not making any glaring mistakes. I did cut the hank in half before I started getting strands. I have enough for the mane, and placed another order to get more for the tail. I still need to decorate the body so it's a big deal to wait.

You guys are so helpful and awesome!   :good:
