As an Aussie, cutting out syllables is a national passtime...
Most of my ponies get shortened names, if not just addressed by "come here, you". Butterscotch is called Butters, Love Story is shortened to Lovely, white star Milky Way is just Milky and I call the silver star version Shining Way or just Shiny, Moondancer is Moonie, Majesty is Madge or sometimes Lady, Wind Whistler is Windy, Dancing Butterflies is Dancer, my baby Embers are referred to by colour/symbol (Blue, Pink, Lav, Dream and Ribbon). Sometimes I call Seaflower as Seafarer and imitate her speaking in a gruff old captain's voice.
Most G4s are short enough with 2-4 syllables but I do call Daisy Dreams "Dreamer". The only nickname to take more effort to pronounce than their official name is Rainbow Flash, I call her "Lady Flashheart".
