Fantasy film wing- noobie question

I bought some fantasy film to make some wings but I haven't tried it out yet.  I've read some tutorials and I think I'm ready to try it out but I was wondering if I could get away without using an embossing heating tool to heat the film around the wings.  I don't own an embossing heating tool and I was wondering if anybody has ever used their toaster to heat the edges of their wings?  If I really get into making wings I'll probably buy an embossing heating tool but since I don't know how much use I'd get out of it I was wondering if anybody has used alternative methods. lol

I use a clothes iron (putting the film between pieces of tissue paper so it doesnt' melt to the iron)
and a lighter

That is so much a better idea than what I did! O.o  I just used a candle and prayed a lot, lol.
