Poor Tex ..What The?
« on: February 09, 2014, 08:14:04 PM »
Finally own one of the Big Brothers, I got Tex the other day ..and some thing is wrong with the pony.
Besides normal wear, the MLP has some thing embedded in it I can't identify in marks.

Does any one know what is going on from the leg into the flank?

Looks like pindot.  Some people say it's mold, but it's not.  It's in ground dirt, and it occurs when the pony is dirtied with something that has super fine particles that are smaller than the pores of the vinyl.

Boil baths will swell the pores of the vinyl and some hard scrubbing from that point on will remove it.  Some say to use Oxy, but I don't believe it really makes a difference.  It's the heat that's the key.  You need to swell the pores.  I will use some cream of tartar mixed with soap, but you have to rinse the mixture off VERY well, or you'll give the pony a reverso-case of pindot as the cream of tartar will get stuck in the pores after getting the dirt out.

Sometimes it also depends on *what* has been imbedded into the pores.  I just peroxide sunfaded a Honeycomb with quite a bit of pindot for all of two days and I do not see anything of it left on her.

^ what miraja said.
My Tex has ALWAYS had pindot - I believe it's because he has denser plastic.

Just think how you get rid of blackheads on your skin.  Steam facials, exfoliation, and the occasional needle and squeeze.  Make sure your hands are super clean, and keep changing the water as you do it. Bleach, or similar will make the dirt clean, but won't necessarily clean the dirt.

Moulds are unable to create their own food source - they can't live on plastic for years on end.

My Applejack had that. I put her in bleach (yes, bleach DOES kill the hair, learned my lesson the hard way) and it simply rubbed right off. So, she obviously had mold. If it's dirt, you have to go the scrubbing/boiling route.

I get rid of pindot by holding the area under really hot water then using a plastic scraper firmly over the still warm plastic.  I scrub the area in dish soap too after every couple of scrapes with a toothbrush so far I've been able to remove 99% of all pindot on even white ponies

The good thing about pindot is that it's quite easy to get rid of with some elbow grease - just don't burn your hands. :)

I agree with the others, it is absolutely pindot. It is removable but you absolutely have to be determined to get rid of it :P You need super hot water and elbow grease; I use a butter knife to scrape along the surface of the plastic. The hot water makes the pores [which are holding all the little dots of dirt you can see here - i.e. the "pin dots"] open and then the knife literally scrapes the dirt off.

Uuuurrr, pindot is awful. :( I got a Cotton Candy that had pretty bad pindot on her legs once. Some hard scrubbing with a magic eraser made it fade but not go away. Best of luck getting that stuff out of Tex!!
