What to do?! (Daisy Dayes Baby Centaur)
« on: February 01, 2014, 02:49:35 PM »
Hi!  I'm in a mental dilemma with myself over the Daisy Dayes baby centaur doll.

I ordered one of the extra blank ones they had on that one site, and when I got her, I didn't realize I had to do the eyes myself, so anyone that can help with that I NEED IT! = D

But that's not all my dilemma's... She also won't stand properly and not sure if the string in her right leg is too tight or what but I can't get her to stand on her back legs like I saw in a picture in the Centaur thread. Nor does she want to stand up without the right leg kicking out of place before I get a chance to sit her down Does anyone know how to help with that? Or is it the way some BJD dolls do? Since I'm not an expert or knowledgeable at any of this -.-

Then the last one I have...I saw they updated the page with one that has the face up and blushing, and I'm tempted to get that one since I don't know anything about doing a face up or blushing...but would anyone here want to pay what I did for the blank one?

Sorry for sounding all dumb and such, but any help with these questions will be appreciated ^.^

I am sure you will find someone to help you-  there are people you can send your doll to for a face-up, and that person would also likely be able to help you with the eyes, and maybe even re-stringing.

I am not familiar with your particular doll- but these things tend to keep their value well so you probably won't have much difficulty selling your doll, should you choose to go that route.

However, while there are just a sprinkling of BJD collectors on this forum- there are a lot more on DenofAngels.com.  The only catch is that they have a minimum period of time/post count before you can buy or sell dolls.  If you would like an invitation to that site- PM me with your email address, and I'll send you one.  :)

Can you link or take pictures? I can help with stringing. I also might be interested in buying the blank depending on price

Thanks for a reply ^,^

I've always wanted to go to that forum but never knew anyone (or knew them enough) to ask to be a part of it. Thank you so much! I'll PM you =D

Well never mind...thought I had several more hours of the fully painted one in my cart, but I guess not -.-  But let me know about how to fix the stringing if you can.

^ Oh she's adorable!

It took me a full 2 hours to put the eyes in.  It's not that replacing eyes is normally hard... its just that the baby centaurs' heads are teeny tiny. It's hard to get your tools inside and see what you're doing at the same time.

Anyway, I bought some eye putty from Denver Doll and got started.

http://www.denverdoll.com/leekeputty.php

The back of the head comes off easily and goes back on just as easily.  Looking inside you can see where the eyes are suppose to go.

You can also see a hook and string and it's really in the way of what you want to do. However,  I would leave that alone and try to work around it.  At one point, I did twist it and removed the head from the rest of the body. But it wasn't helpful as once I got the eyes in place, they were dislodged by my needing to twist the hook to get the head back on.  There just isn't enough room in that itty bitty head.

Anyway... I sure more experienced people have better ideas, but this is what I did to finally get the eyes in.

1. Found a brightly lit space.  Absolutely necessary.

2. Wrapped the doll in a white cloth with it's head sticking out.  This was so it wouldn't get dirty.

3.  I got down on my back with a flashlight on next to my head so I could see into the doll.

4. Held the doll face down above me.

5.  Dropped the eyes into the head and rolled them around until they dropped into the eye holes.

6. Maneuvered the eyes gently with the back of a stick pen through the eye holes. If I were you,  I'd stick some putty on the sharp end of the pen just in case you drop it on yourself.  Or find something other than a stick pin to do the job.

7. Gently padded a little putty around the eyes from behind.  You don't need much at all.

8. Firmed up the putty when I was back upright.

It only took... forever and a back ache plus multiple tries. But it got done and I'm happy with it.

Like Galactica said, you can probably find a face-up artist to take care of all these things for you.  Even if you buy the one with the face-up, you will still need to add the eyes and probably restring.  Mine is a little bit kicky too so I think they all might be.

I wonder if tiny pipe cleaners inserted into the legs and the body cavity would help with the kickiness?

That is seriously adorable!! I am soo intimidated by centaurs, myself. :P

Hopefully some of these tips will be useful to you. I would offer you my face-up services myself, but I'm in the U.S. Hopefully you can find someone closer to you to work on her. ;)

Good luck and keep us posted on how it goes!! :D

I'm so jelly! I desperately wanted a daisy dayes centaur, but didn't have the funds for their preorder. Where did you say they were posted again?

I also might be interested in buying the blank depending on price

Ditto. :silly:
