About restoring pony jewels
« on: January 06, 2014, 07:44:45 AM »
I now own Brush n Grow Princess Ponies Star Gleamer, Glittering Gem and Brilliant Bloom *pics soon in Brag* but I want to restore the twinkle to their jewels. They have gems on their foreheads similar to Twinkle eyes with a coat of medium that gives off the shine of gasoline on water ie the rainbow look.

The craft store in my town sells pearlizing meidum but for the twinkle look I want to know if any out there know of what I need for that.

I know what you mean and want but I have no idea what it would be called, have you tried Dr Google??? Wouldn't it be great to give those gems back their lustre!?!?

I think it's interference paint that gives it that sheen, right?

Glaze that you can buy at most hardware stores is the most effective thing I have found. Its supposed to be used with a paint added to if of course but you can apply it as a medium itself. The thing to remember is if the gem has chips and scratches anything you apply will probably still leave that damage looking different to the rest of the gem. Only buffing the gem back to matt and then reapplying a glaze would even it out. However as even the best mediums used to restore some of the sheen will not look as original as the original gem, touching up the gem is probably a befterbetthan a complete restore.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi
