It's totally worth it! I bought it at the fair for I believe $15. I also really like the G1 book for identifying what accessories came with which pony

I wondered the same thing when looking for the G1 book on ebay and amazon.
I guess because they are out of print?

Books that are mostly large, detailed pictures cost more to manufacture than books that are mostly text with few, if any pictures. Also, these books are larger than most paper backs. The MLP Collectors Inventory books are comparably priced with other collector guide books of a similar size with similar content.

I found that buying them as a pack was cheaper for me (because I have to import them) I think it was $110 including shipping for the first 4 books? close, anyway. I think they're pretty reasonably priced myself, I know I  couldn't get a guide much cheaper for my other hobbies.. and Summer's books are pretty thorough.

I dunno, Amazon has it for $23 plus free shipping if you spend more than $35 on an order. Sounds pretty affordable to me, considering.

I think its also worth remembering that they are being produced for a pretty small group of people. At least in the grand scheme of things and in the light of the normal target market for a lot of books, MLP G1 to G3 collectors are not in the tens of thousands that a lot of publishers will demand. For that reason you are essentially buying a specialised product and specialised products tend to cost more money.

For me, I think the purchase price for what you are getting - be they direct with SweetTune prices or retail prices - is fantastic either way. However, if you dont want to spend the money, there are plenty of internet sites out there with the same information although you dont get the feel of a real book then of course.

The G1 is the most expensive one. I got it LAST Christmas... for 38 dollars!
