The Through the Mirror line
« on: November 29, 2013, 12:53:02 PM »
So ... what exactly is the purpose of the Through the Mirror line? I mean, well, of course we know the main purpose is to get money. ;) No need to go into that. But ... what is the reasoning behind it? It seems like it mostly exists so people can buy Ponies wearing the clothes of their human versions. LOL. Which is interesting, but still. And then of course we get another release of the basic human Twilight, only with longer hair.

Hmm, perhaps the purpose is to further establish connections between the regular Pony world and the Equestria Girls world.

Also, is there supposed to be a Fashion Style Sunset Shimmer in the line? I've heard people saying this, but I've only seen the small figure. I might buy a Fashion Style size Sunset, but otherwise I think I'd spring for the original, masked brushable.

If there is a Fashion Style, though, are some of the clothes painted on her body, as seems to be the case with Through the Mirror FS Twilight?

...

^ that would be my guess... since Hasbro seems to show no sign of stopping EG... (Rockin' Rainbow Jem Pony Girls. )

I've never heard of a Fashion Style Sunset Shimmer. It makes sense that they would make one, but no news on its existence yet! Not a whisper, not even a taobao prototype. Unfortunately Hasbro may be keeping the larger ponies to just the main six and the royal family, maximum profit with minimal uncertainty.

Through the Mirror currently consists of the brushables Twilight and Sunset, the FS Twilight, and the EQG doll Twilight.

And yes, I'm also going with the idea that Through The Mirror is meant as a link to strengthen Equestria Girl's credibility in the minds of buyers. I mean, if you didn't see the movie and somehow missed all the advertisements, it would seem very strange and out-of-nowhere to have an aisle of dolls marked "MLP" that don't look all that similar to the characters aside from colour scheme. The main FiM show doesn't even have a throwaway gag about humans, it just blazed right past the S3 coronation and straight into S4 mystery adventure plot. But now I have this purple pony with a plaid skirt, and it matches this weird purple doll with a plaid skirt, so the dolls must be relevant!

There was a photo of a regular Sunset Shimmer a while back that was briefly mistaken for a FS because there was nothing in the photo for scale and it was so weird at the time to see a pony with new eye print.

Yes as Dragonflitter says I believe it was confusion over a regular size Shimmer which caused the belief of a potential FS version.

Other than, as you say, the simple commercialisation aspect of Walmart wanting to sell an exclusive line which covered all aspects of MLP - FS, princess, playful and doll - I agree its probably designed to focus on a link up between the Pony and Girls worlds.

Somebody was all, "What should we call it?"

Somebody else was like, "Didn't one of them go through a mirror?"

And then everyone congratulated each other on the clever line name. ;)

I wish there was a single release SS EQG Doll with good hair in this time so I could feel less bad about buying the two-pack with bad hair! Sigh.
When the Equestria Girls dolls show up in stores and you end up with unneeded doubles, PM me! I'll buy them!/i]

My guess would be to bring the MLP ponies and the EG dolls into popularity by doing a collaborative line. I hope this means we can see other ponies in the line too *crosses fingers for new Fluttershy stuff*

LOL. Priceless commentary from both of you.

I like the line name. :) Through the Mirror is pretty neat. Although it makes me think of Lewis Carroll stories (not that that's a bad thing).

LOLOLOL! xD

I always imagined it was supposed to be like Through the Looking Glass but pony version but your suggestion sounds far more realistic!
