Slight problem with a pearlised pony
« on: November 10, 2013, 10:35:12 PM »
So, I recently made an account at Ponydex, and have been slowly getting the pictures done for it.

Last week I opened another box of ponies (most of mine are in storage, booo) and took pictures. One of my 'pearly' sea pony babies has lost all of her pearl sheen though.

http://www.ponydex.com/ponydex.php?s_pony=water%20lily&view=r&p=42369

Is this a common occurence? Does anyone know of anything I *might* be able to put on to make her pearly again, without ruining her completely?

I've only ever had one pearlised pony and she was fine. I'm thinking, maybe heat  can have an effect? Could the box have gotten really warm while she was in it?

Pearlizing seems to rub off rather easily. You can try using a pearlizing paint to give her the sheen back... A thread that I posted a loooooooong time ago. old topic here I think there's another thread in customs with similar info...

I agree that it rubs off rather easily, I've come across a number of both the Pearly sea ponies and MO babies that have rubs in areas where they were obviously held by a small hand and played with. I've never tried to restore it myself but I would love to see the results if you do!

She has completely lost her sheen or its rubbed off in patches? Unfortunately the latter seems to be pretty common and a very easy occurrence.

Over the years I have tried a couple of different pearlised paints and none of them quite have the same transparency even watered down as the original. They do look fantastic though and you can get a great effect if you are doing all of a pony which is completely matt. My problem was always getting it to quite the same transparency and coverage on a pony I was trying to patch the pearl coating back on to - it just never looked 100%. Almost like trying to reapply nail polish to a chipped nail. Once I did magic eraser off the remains of coating on a baity Sea Shimmer to see and the paint was much more even when finished but the magic eraser had left a grainy effect on the coating which was left so she still was not right [should have known :P].

Personally unless its really really bad or its a couple of very small areas which you may not notice the patching on, I would be tempted to leave her as is.
