Does anyone know how?..
« on: November 19, 2013, 08:02:59 AM »
To take mailing labels off of magazines safely? I have collectible mags that I don't want to affect the value of by just ripping off the labels. The cover would definitely go with it.

I was thinking of steaming it somehow but I'm not sure how to do that without getting the magazine damp too. Does anyone have any ideas?

Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Those things just seem to rub off sometimes while they're being read haha. Have you tried just trying to gently rub it off with something like an eraser?

Iv never actually tried to remove them so hopefully someone has some better advise lol, iv just always noticed that they seem to rub off rather easily.

No, I haven't tried to rub it off but I'd rather take it off completely anyway, as I'm pretty sure the label being on there depreciates the value. Thanks for  the suggestion anyway though! :)

You could try using a hair dryer to hear the glue up a bit. My husband uses mine to remove price tags from record album covers that he finds second hand. It still leaves a bit of residue which he then uses Goo be Gone (or something with a name like that). I don't know if it's safe to use on a thinner magazine cover, but it hasn't warped or damaged the album covers. To be safe, I'd just give the hair dryer a try and see if there is any residue.

Good luck :)

I know stamp collectors use lighter fluid to safely remove stamps from envelopes, etc.  You just let it soak for a minute or so, and it will peel right off without doing any damage.

There's some sort of kit you can buy to remove wine labels (labeloff), I don't know if it's the same idea though or whether it works on paper...

Yea, I think I'm going to give the hair dryer idea a try. If that doesn't work then I'll come back on here. Thanks everyone!
