I've heard people say that G1 sparkle ponies are made of a harder, more brittle plastic. Is this just the result of aging or were they all like this even when new? Also, are Glow'n'Show ponies the same as far as plastic goes?

Its just ageing. Yes the plastic is slightly different in content and manufacture - in order to add glitter/material to it and to make it translucent. But its essentially the same type of medium. Unfortunately the changes made for it means that it is a little more prone to break down - hence why people find them becoming sticky and harder over time. The same things happen with opaque ponies as well, its just that its a little more prevalent in sparkle ponies. The plastic is not more brittle its simply that it looses a lot of its elasticity/pliancy and therefore becomes harder.
