Cleaning So Softs?
« on: October 26, 2013, 09:32:06 AM »
I recently won SS Skippty Doo on eBay and I'm wondering what the best way to clean her is. She has minty flocking and I don't want to mess it up.

I usually just use antibacterial soap followed by a lightweight conditioner that doesn't leave any residue. I use cool or lukewarm water, since hot water has potential to loosen the flocking glue. If there's a bit of stubborn dirt, I use a soft toothbrush and gently work the dirt out with some more soap.

If her flocking is in good condition she must be just dirty?
DON'T rub her flocking too hard or it will be NOT good condition!

I just use a little warm water and some good soap.....baby soap.... Amway LOC or whatever and wet the pony all over then massage gently with your fingers all over.
Rinse her off well and pat her dry in a nice thick towel and put her somewhere airy to dry.

If you need to do her mane and tail....again a good shampoo rinse well and put in some conditioner....leave it for a while then rinse well.
I put paper toweling around her neck and one back leg and wind the hair around her neck and leg then cover with more paper toweling......put her upside down in a nice airy place (helps drain any internal water if she is upside down!

Hope this is a help!

Comb out her mane and tail when dry and the flocking shouldn't need anything else once dried!

Normally I use cool water and antibacterial soap on the flocking and treat the hair the way I normally do- with conditioner!

Cold water and gentle treatment - baby soap is a good idea!

Great, thanks guys! She's from a collector, (I think) so she won't be too dirty.

I do the same thing also. Just be careful is her flocking is coming off. I got a SS Twilight and her flocking was coming off when I just touched her. But a kids toothbrush is very soft so its safe . :)

This is exactly what I do :)

My only initial recommendation is just to do a test before you try anything at all. Flocking only comes off because the glue has broken down and aged; so I would test whatever process you intend to follow under one of her back hooves and just make sure no issues at all :) I am a little paranoid :P

She came in the mail! Her flocking is a little flakey but I get that. Now I'm going to work on making her a stand.
