Is this a new or old style head?
« on: October 11, 2013, 01:53:53 PM »
These Plumsweets are suddenly all over Ebay. I really can't tell the difference between new and old style heads on G4s, but I had a thought--given how many of her there are right now, is she maybe getting a rerelease?

It looks like the old style, because the snout seems to turn down more. They could be rejects from the factory, that was the case with a lot of the Star Dreams that we saw (the one I got had a very visible repainted black line on her one eye)

Usually I tell by the mold lines that run along the jawline near the ears. The head is held "taller", the nose is more upturned, and the forehead/cheeks are wider on the new mold, but all of that can be difficult to notice depending on the color of the pony and the angle or lighting of the photo. Like yours - I've memorised the new head pretty well but I honestly can't say whether your photo is new or old. But the mold lines are always super obvious! Maybe try to find a listing that has a photo taken from an angle that has the side of the jaw visible?

I would say she's almost definitely old head style, based on those pictures. The majority of the new heads I've seen have visible lines running from the center of the ear, curving across the cheek and ending near the jawline. I've chopped together a quick collage for you with Sunset Shimmer, the "rainbow power" tinsel haired Rarity, Dash and Pinkie, fave collection Lyra, plus the new Cheerilee which I assume is going to be in the upcoming CMC & Friends pack.

I think it's likely that this Plumsweet is a factory error, seeing as in the first photo you posted her hairline plugs are uneven and very skewed to the right. As to why she is only being sold now, when she was first released in 2011? It's a mystery!

I agree with the old head mould. She is such a lovely pony - I hope we get more variety like her in the future...just not the same pony again :P
