rehairing tool questions
« on: September 27, 2013, 10:44:43 AM »
I have never rehaired
I want to learn and try
I don't know if I would like it or be good at it
I know how to get a pony head off, yank a tail out and put it back in, clean a pony, and deflock a pony...I enjoy all that so naturally branching out and trying rehairing seems natural
I was looking and I see a eBay link in the tutorial for a rehair tool that costs $16 roughly
I hear you guys say break needles
So do you buy a $16 thing a bob each time...seems pricely
Or can you replace the needle?
Is that the tool most used that eBay seller tool for $16 in that Arena tutorial
I am overwhelmed with the tool and feel I need Knowledge here
I am thinking about hosting a rescue pony swap with the option of sending supplies to people in swap to learn to rehair and such
So not really a custom swap because no pony will be customized and then sent
More like a rescue, restore on your own, etc depending on the persons wishes of what they want to do with the pony they would get sent to rescue...
Think of it as a Rescue(supply kit included) Swap
A lot of people seem to like the idea, not everyone will want to rehair I bet so there is to be two levels...but I just need to learn more about the rehairing procedure and the cost to do this on a pony and what should be sent
If someone wants to co-host this with me great ;)
Look for the idea post in Swaps
Either way I want to learn, I love to rescue ponies and I noticed other people do too so hence the questions and the swap idea
Appreciate any thoughts and help on the matter
Thank you :lovey:

My rehairing tool is an xacto knife handle and an embroidery needle snipped off at an angle. i got the needle out of a kit at the dollar store and yeah they do break but if you find a decent needle it should last you quite a while.

You can get the one you're looking at but dont expect to be able to order extra needles from places like dollyhair.

here's a video tutorial i learned the process from:
