I have 4 dogs, one of which is a German Shepherd mix!  Her name is Timber Rae and she is going on 11 years old right now.  I rescued her from an abusive owner about 8 1/2 years ago, he was trying to make her into a "guard dog" by putting her on a real heavy chain and trying to teach her how to attack.   :(  Timber wanted nothing to do with any of that, and she is a very well behaved, gentle dog who gets along great with the other 3 rescued dogs and our 4 rescued cats.

Pics in the spoiler box.

Also from a couple of years ago.  This was actually supposed to be my Beagle's bed, but Timber decided that she wanted it instead :P :

And here is a picture I took just the other day.  She is with one of my Pit Bulls, Tiana (Tiana has dwarfism):

I have a German Shepard named Sam. He is such a sweet dog. I don't have any pics of him on my phone. I'll add some soon.

I have a German Sheperd friend called Mollie in the nearby animal shelter. Mollie's story is really sad. She is every part loyal, but not as fierce as other German Sheperds. (I know that German Sheperds arent all fierce, but Mollie is EXTREMELY quiet and demure) She was given up by her owner as she watched a robbery of the owner's house take place without barking. The owner was furious and abandoned her. I honestly think that that was terribly uncalled for. If you want your house to be kept safe, install an alarm system. It wasnt Mollie's fault, yet she had to be punished.

Mollie was devastated, she was brought in when i was still a volunteer. Ive always wanted a german sheperd, so I was delighted to meet her! However she wasnt very pleased to meet me. She was so upset that she would just lie in one corner, only getting up to eat or to relieve herself. It was so sad. I went to talk to her everyday, and slowly, we became friends. She was still very upset but would perk up when i approached her and on good days will even wag her tail!

She was adopted again, and given up again. The man who adopted her claimed that she wasnt what he was looking for in a dog, and was too boring. Again, uncalled for! If you want entertainment, watch TV instead of taking it out on a poor, defenseless animal! Poor Mollie. She became upset again, but luckily she was still happy to see me. I often wanted to run away with her to live in the forest or something like that as my house is way too small for a German Sheperd and my Cav will probably be very jealous.

I am currently waiting for my Grandfather's answer to adopting her, if there is one person who can love her, it's him. Hopefully he'll say yes!

But anyway, Mollie is my best friend, and the sweetest German Sheperd ive ever known :)

I don't have any digital copies of my 'Prince', but he was my childhood dog.  He only lives to be like 12-14 years old (he had horrible back and hips problems, but that's pretty common to the breed).  I'll try to find my pictures soon.
I'm not really on here anymore. Email me if you need my for something.

Well, he's been gone for ten years now but I still miss him like crazy.

This is Gorm, named after a Norwegian viking. He came to us as a tree year old after his owner died of old age. He had grown up on their yard never meeting anyone else than the owner, their other dogs and their cats. Thus, he was very much nontrained and afraid of people. Real proof that people in their 70s not should get dogs, and certainly not big ones as he was.

He loved us and was so loyal, but a real piece of work as we had to train him in the basic commands at that age. We also never could have him in public. To be honest, he was really dumb for being a shephard. He loved to find stuff, he just never found them. He was a purebread long haired shephard, but he was too shorthaired to be championed with, which was as good as. I loved him and he was my best friend ever and I'm crying typing this out as I miss him so much still. He had to go at age nine due to problems with the hips.

Fluffle, that's an awful story. I hope Mollie finds a permanent owner (maybe your grandpa) soon. :)

German Shepherds are so lovely. This thread is really making me miss my dog who sadly had to be put down last December. She wasn't a German Shepherd, but she was the closest thing I ever had to a sister. I miss her so much. :(

StarDapple, that picture of Timber in the small bed is hilarious! Dogs are so silly sometimes.

I absolutely adore them, I have never owned one but a few of my friends have and they are so extermely smart.  I used to dog sit for 2 white german Shepherds one of which was named Shiloh who i absolutely was in love with. He had come from an abused home but was so well behaved and loving, He died a few years ago i found out, but i will never forget him.

I used to be terrified of dogs....until I met my wonderful boyfriend nearly 3 years ago, and had to face my fears as he had a huge black GSD called Max. Max tried to intimidate me at first, not anything serious but he would stare me out and nudge me to get up and get him his ball lol, but as time went on he followed my commands, and fully respected me. He is EXTREMELY clever and is an excellent protector and guard dog.

He is very patient and gentle with my children ( even though he has never really been around children full time) and even with cats and other dogs except other GSDs.

He developed a neurological problem which meant he struggled on his back legs so we bought him a doggy wheel chair which has given him so much life back.
however he is 10 now and unfortunately is nearing the end of his life due to medical problems so we have to make a horrific decision very soon. We can't bear to let him go. I love him like he is my own, like he's always been mine.

I'm really happy there is a thread about GSDs as when I try to tell people about Max and the terrible decisions we have to face they don't understand that he's not just a dog, he is family. It's just nice to read about like minded people who love these wonderful dogs!

Here are some pics of him:
