Flocking? re-flocking?
« on: August 16, 2013, 05:51:43 AM »
On ponies with flocking... if the flocking ever coloured or is it always white? Or is it not even white at all and I'm just being blind :P?

Is white a better flock colour to see through to the base of the pony?

Aaaaand, if you happen to have any pics of ponies you have re-flocked I'd really love to see them! (wonder what I'm gearing up to do :wonder: ;) )

Thanks ^_^

Maaaayyyybeeeeee........

I've seen some tutorials and it's pretty much what I thought it would be. I'd just love to see what other people have done, and kinda confirm that white is (or isn't) the best colour to use!

OMG if I make it work I'm gonna be a flock obsessive.... I love it! lol

I looked at some tutorial too. thinking of reflocking Magic star :) There was someone at the Fair who submitted a very nice g3 flocked Magic Star. If I knew whose it was I would have asked them how they did it!

Here is a pic of it from ashlyne's pictures...

It is always white yes :) And I would guess the original reason was probably keeping it consistent and as inexpensive as possible if flocking always was the same material.

There are some great tutorials out there - I cant wait to see what you are doing.

Ooh, any links for those tutorials? I'm wondering as well :)

Cool, thanks Hathorcat. I didn't want to go out and buy myself a load of flocking in colour and then it not work. White it shall be!

That Magic Star is lovely! I hope whoever did it was proud of themselves!

I looked at this tutorial Aquarel:

I got the link via MLPpreservationproject ^_^

That one I have already seen. Was just wondering about actual factory-like flocking. My BF would be able to do so if he had the machines and now he might get to work in a place where they have them. He said something about covering the entire pony with a certain substance and then use electricity to make the flocking stand upright.
Oh well, maybe he'll suprise me one day. He did take some baits to his 'mancave' where he keeps all his stuff :)

And one more question, where do you buy flocking?

That would be amazing.....

I had to look on ebay as I couldn't find anything in craft shops here in the UK. A lot of stuff came up under Nail art as people use it for their fancy manicures and stuff. I guess you could also import it from America or elsewhere too.

Thats the best tutorial I know of. Its not 100% because the flocking is a little too short for an actual so soft and its not possible for it to be made to stand up as it would in a factory electric application.

However, I have heard that "blowing" the flocking on works better and also the pony in a bag along with flocking, the bag then inflated and sealed and the contents tossed about works too. However the latter is only possible if you have a hairless pony.

I used Mod Podge + pour flocking -method. It did work well and pony is soooo soft. Well ofc not as soft as real so soft ponies are. But I'm happy with it! :D It looks pretty and feels great. And the best part, I was able to do it by myself haha.
