Is this "Pony-Cancer" ????
« on: August 15, 2013, 12:57:23 PM »
So, I got myself a Tex finally, sadly today during the cleaning I noticed he has 4 or 5 slightly brown spots over his body. They aren't to be noticed right away but what I think is a bit strange - they seem like little bubbles which look out of his body like tiny hills

Any way I so hope it's no cancer. I hope the blurry pics are good enough to see what I mean. Can anyone identify these spots?

Hmm, I actually think those are what they call "pony pimples". They are a type of mold.

Edit. Here's info about them, just scroll down. http://www.mlppreservationproject.com/body.html

I suggest you lance them like zits! Sterilise a fine (very small point) sewing needle with acetone then put a drop of acetone on the spot. Then lance the spot and wiggle to introduce acetone to the plastic. Repeat for each one. Then wash in hot soapy water with antibacterial handwash and squeeze the zits and see if anything comes out! Wash again. Make sure you remove the acetone as it may cause damage long-term and squeeze out the zit. Make sure you've washed the plastic thoroughly in hot soapy water with antibac after squeezing and that the pony is completely dry inside and out before storage. Squeeee! I love squeezing other peoples spots. Good luck, please let me know if this improves anythingx

For me it looks like a plastic breakdown and unfortunately what we could call "cancer". As Doedeardarling mentions when the plastic breaks down like this sometimes the chemicals which are separating gather in little reservoirs under the plastic. Hence why sometimes we seen age mark "bruises" or these spots. They can also be caused by dust/dirt in the moulding process which results in an imperfection, which over the years breaks down the plastic and causes problems.

I would simply follow the procedure on the preservation project. Dont over do the process just see if there is something to drain out. Unfortunately while this may help the colour issue, it may not return the bump back to the flat of the pony. Try a hair dryer to heat the plastic and see if you can get it to return to shape.

Thank you all.  :(

I'll do the steps from the reservation project, but never the less I find it very strange that bacterias cause this. Why would they go to plastic? They got nothing to get there, do they?

I got Tex together with Wigwam, which hasn't these pimples. But must I worry for him to? Should I keep him seperate as well?

I have a peachy with the same spots. When I got her a couple of months ago, they were very raised. I just tried piercing with a needle - the ones that were still raised. Most of the spots seemed to have flattened, and look more cancer like. She is also beginning to go sticky inside. Nothing came out of the spots, so me thinks cancer and plastic breakdown.

so, i did what the project said - let him into hot water so that he got really soft, desinfected a needle in acetone and pierced the dot

but when i squeezed it, nothing came out - of none of the four dots - just as with kezrobs peachy, so then it is brown mold huh? just my luck...  :(

strange that the spots raised though. should i now fear for wigwam? i already sorted tex out - he's in quarantine now.

Its not bacteria which causes it. It would be unusual if something actually did drain out but its always worth a shot. It could simply have been an imperfection in his plastic during manufacture or it could have been a little spec of dirt or dust which got into the plastic during moulding and as it broke down over the years it distorted the plastic around it or more likely it is just age marks/cancer displaying in a different way than we traditionally think of it.

No if its cancer it will not spread so WigWam should be fine.
