Can anyone help with rooting an Xperia Play?

Hey guys, I could really use some help!

I'm attempting to root my phone, since I need to delete all the bloatware off it as it's rendering it nearly unusable 0_0. I've followed these instructions up to step 12: http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/instructions. I've tried to put the phone in fastboot mode, but when I attempt it my laptop won't recognise the device? I have NO idea why and I've followed the instructions down to the letter.

Can anyone help? This has taken me an age and I need to fix it! I'm running Windows 8, if that's useful. Thank you!

Do you have drivers installed?

Have to be honest, I assumed the drivers I needed were included with the packages I installed from that site. What exactly should I have? I'll go looking for them.

Im not sure exactly, only that it does need all of its drivers to do something like that.  Its the same with any computer.  It will be annoying and wont do anything if youre missing a driver
