Do baby sea ponies have weights?
« on: August 01, 2013, 09:33:16 AM »
I know adult sea ponies are supposed to have weights in their tails that can sometimes be missing, but as I was working on making an inventory of my collection, I realized that *none* of my baby sea ponies were weighted.  Is that how they're supposed to be?  Or am I just really unlucky with finding ones with missing weights?

I don't think they are, at least mine doesn't have a weight.

Please correct me if I am wrong but...

adult sea ponies have weights in their tails so that they float upright in the water.  The ones where they have been removed are usually done so to prevent/cure rusting which is so prevalent in these ponies.  Some collectors replace this metal weight with an equal non-metal weight - usually a marble or similar, but since many collectors don't float their ponies in the bath tub, they usually keep them empty.

Now the babies have their float rings to support them in the tub, so they do not need the weights in their tails.

At least I think so

Nope no weight...although I remember thinking as a little girl it was a pain when they were out of their floats that baby sea ponies seem to prefer to swim on their sides!
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi
