Insurance on a collection.. Is it a good idea?

For those of us that have restores, I have a spreadsheet with current PC's on my USB as well. I usually buy in lots, and then fix them up, so ebay receipts aren't usually actual value - ponies in the condition some arrive in are worth way less than once they're cleaned up and have a new lease on life, so once a month I update any prices with the PC archive, and add in any new ponies, taking into account any flaws, accessories, etc...

Good point, Stormness.  I've got some restores too..  I appreciate all the good advice everyone is giving!  There's a lot I need to do!  I hadn't even thought of some of this stuff!

I'll have to ask my mom if my ponies can be covered on our insurance. I should take pictures of them at some point. Actually, I need to take them all off the shelves and dust everything, so I could do photos then. I also have around $300 or so worth of Monster High dolls so I'm thinking if I add my ponies to the insurance, I should add them as well.

Yes I think its a good idea. I think everything I have posted about it before should be in the threads lovesbabysquirmy linked to and there is tonnes of good advice from members in there.

You should certainly speak to your current insurer or a specialist insurer before you do anything else - mainly because you need to know what they as a company need you to retain a record of. Some insurers will want pictures and details on every item while others will offer you a blanket policy for a total value.
