Army Ponies - How did you decide?

I guess what I have are armies? At this point, they are doubles. I got a Bowtie a year or so ago and instantly fell in love with her, so at the MLP Fair I traded some unwanted G3s for the long-haired variant. Initially I was going to try flocking her, but I was so happy to have a variant that I just left her. As for Cocoberry, I bought a pink and a white haired pony, because I like her with both colors. After that weekend, I decided that I wouldn't complain if any more Bowties or Cocoberries ever ended up in my herd.

Oh, and Munchy. She's my favorite. I'd love to have a Munchy army.

They happened to me without realizing it! :O I just kept buying variants and boom! Twilight and appleja k army! Lol!

Buttons, Beachball and Wind Whistler were my favourite childhood ponies - Dad let me choose three at a car boot sale from a stall full of ponies (those were the days!). So that army was intentional as I collected the variants initially, then if I was buying ponies from a seller and they had one of the trio, I'd add them in. Since then I have two TAF Buttons in the army (one was from a swap) and lots of customs. Whenever I have the money, if there is an auction ending on ebay for one of these ponies and they're going unsold at an OK price I'll rescue them.

My D&P army was unintentional, I kept getting them in lots but I just love them.

Same with my SLH G3 army actually, Petal Blossom and Rainbow Flash started that one off.

I have the makings of a G2 Ivy army, and a G4 Twilight Sparkle Ivy but whether I'll go out of my way to increase those I don't know.

Well, Bouncy just happends to be the pony who immediately makes me smile when I see her. So having an army just seemed normal.
I also have my Rarity army, since she too is a big favorite! ♥

I have three mini-armies on the go - my tiny little Ribbon army (three plus a piece of G1 merchandise), an incidental Minty army (though it's only my G1 and some G3s and Ponyvilles)  and a Fluttershy army (several G3s and G4s).  They're just the ponies I like best, and the ones I feel closest to.

Wouldn't mind a Big Brother army (probably Tex), but they're harder to find...

I don't think I mentioned that my armies are mostly doubles, I have the odd Italian but it's mostly just doubles or later releases. My only variant army is Starflower and I plan on increasing that nirvana wise but also just with doubles.

I don't intend to make too many armies (boyfriend rolls his eyes and chuckles in the background) but when I get upgrades for some of my ladies I may part with the originals or I may keep them. I just don't know. I'm not being greedy I just love allllllllll my ponies.

My armies started with a G1 Moondancer Army.  I have great memories with her as a child and once I got my first one, I couldn't wait to get another.

Then, in the process of collecting I ended up with a few G1 Lemon Drops, and that started that army.

Finally, once I started spending more time on the arena, I realized how much I love G1 Fizzy, and so I started collecting her as an army as well

I have an unintentional Pinkie Pie army. I just seem to keep getting her in my hunts... and now they have their own shelf. I only have 2 or 3 more doubles of other characters...

I have a small Minty army.  I think I have 10 to 12, so far only G3s.  I have yet to get my hands on a G1 or G4.  I had a G1 when I was a kid but she is long gone. 

The reason, I love mint green.
