Depending on the pony (ie, length, coarseness and type of curl I'm after) I use a combination of:- perm rods- foam rollers- Velcro rollers- straws with pipe cleaners in (no need for Bobby pins!)- twisting - patience Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2

I curled her wet hair around straws, held the curls in place with bobby pins, then doused her with nearly boiling water. I left her to dry for a day, carefully took out the straws, gave the curls a gentle fluff, and voila! I styled her months ago and she still looks great.
What I have found awesome for curls are foam rollers. You get them in packets of 8 to 12 in Boots [and I am sure other chemists do them as well. They have a wire centre and soft foam outer. They are perfect. However, I will second what everyone says you must leave them in for a significant period of time - every single part of the hair needs to be bone dry. I actually leave them in for 6 to 7 days just to be certain.
Heat is the ONLY want to guarantee long lasting curls. I wrap the wet hair in straws tightly and then ( in the winter) put them on top of a radiator ( with a towel underneath) and leave them for 24 hours.Or in the summer I blast their hair with the straws in with a hair dryer for 30 seconds with a hair driver and then leave the straws in for 2 days.I have ponies that still have their curls 3 years later

So basically follow the normal process but when you have first finished wrapping the curls go for a blast of super hot hear and then allow to air dry the rest of the way?
