When I'm in the hunting mood, no thrift shop, flea market or antique store is passed up.  That might sort of be a lie... some antique stores are passed up when I get the feeling they're all "grandma furniture."  I probably have pony hits one out of every dozen stores or so that I go into; it just takes patience and a willingness to go everywhere.  And make sure you ask an employee/vendor.  It worked for me one time, when I was at an antique store that had some ponies upstairs that they hadn't priced yet - they even let me name my prices that time (and yes, I was fair, because they were so honest with me.  Might have been stupid on my part, but I try not to take advantage just because someone doesn't know any better).

Ten years ago (wow it's been that long), I found a non SS Cherries Jubilee plus two other G1 adults. At a tiny mom n pop thrift store, located in a small rural northern CA town. Needless to say I was shocked and said store became my "go to" spot for about a year. Till they changed ownership and finally closed several years later.

Goodwill can be a miss, though I don't go in only looking for ponies. I have found plenty of G3 play sets minus ponies of course. But no ponies. Maybe one day I'll get lucky.

Ah, don't say that Mermaid
I don't see G1's at thrifts stores much anymore, at least not here in WI:(  Flea markets though seem to be a little better.

Oh, don't say that!  I'm hoping to make my way back up towards home for a week or two come May or so. . .  You know. . . for Pecatonica!  But I'll likely be hitting lots of thrift stores too for funzies.

Goodwill has an auction sight but it's mostly g3 in played with condition and the shipping is sky high. If you watch and wait you can snag a good deal on some g1s, but collectors know about this sight so you won't be getting rare g1 all that cheep and they almost always need cleaning.

I've been getting ponies at Goodwill and my local flea market. But I've got an in at the market I know most of the dealers so they set aside stuff for me.

I've never found a pony at a thrift store. My older sister did once, an adorable fakie and a Shining Armor but that was it. Even when I visit other cities and stop by their thrift shops I've yet to find any. I found a few G1s at a small "hobby" shop once that was very thrift store-esque, but that was pretty much all they had. It stinks since I really love finding G3s and would have absolutely no problem if I only ever found them XD

I've only found one G1 in 14 years :P

I just look any time I'm near a goodwill store.

You're in California too-- I wouldn't even bother :P I'm beginning to think there are no thrift store ponies left in this state. I just got back from a brief trip visiting family out-of-state, and stopped at several thrift stores along the way. Didn't see a single pony of any generation. I've been going every summer for the last few years, and only found ponies one time. A handfull of G3s and a G1 that it looked like someone practiced voodoo on. Ironically, those were at a Goodwill, which I usually have absolutely no luck with as they usually don't even have a toy section. It's so sad and discouraging :(
