I've always wondered if like lets say you live in Italy and the nirvana version of a pony is from Italy.  Can you go to thrift stores and such and have an easier time finding those versions there?  Or are they just as hard to get as anywhere else.  I mean I've never gone and searched for a Nirvana.  I would like to some day own the alternate version of Majesty with the flowers as her symbol instead of whatever her symbol is now.

Just curious.

Thanks for reading. :)

When it comes to Italians, yes, it appears they were sold all over (Western in the Cold War sense) Europe and are pretty easy to find. France and Germany seem jam-packed with them. French ponies appear regularly on French ebay. Even here in Finland, some collectors have a hard time trying to find a HK Peachy when the Italian version is all they come across. Rare ponies, like some alternate Italians, will be rare wherever you go, but considerably less rare in the area where they were originally sold. ;) The same holds for Greeks. It seems plausible that they were originally imported to Scandinavia and Finland because they do pop up at flea markets.

I can totally concur on the IT peachy front. I have a hard time finding anything but Italians. Yesterday I paid 2€ for a normal white HK moondancer on a fleamarket, because I was so happy to finally find a HK one. In Belgium we have Italians and French ponies a lot. Sometimes also even the Dutch ones but those are rare.
Selling some ponies to pay for the vet bills of abandoned rabbits I adopted!

Regarding Scandinavia: Never came across any Italians, French or Greek ponies here in Norway... We had only the UK releases and some of the German ponies as well. But I have never come across a single Italian pony on any of our flea markets here... UK and Germans - yes, they are here, but nothing else. Which makes sense when it comes to import of toys to Norway. Most of the toys in the 80's came either from UK or the US. I don't think I can remember a single toy line with toys from Southern Europe (but of course, I don't know that - there might have been several!)

Maybe it's different in Sweden and Denmark, but I don't think so...?

Same story here about the Italians. I always end up with the italy versions of a pony and i don't have alot of the common US ponies. They were sold here, but i guess italians used to be sold here too, it's crazy. Oh,, and i also happen to find dutchies (ofcourse) and frenchies more often.

Ponies pop up in the most random of places! Ponies made in India have turned up in second hand shops in the US, South African ponies have turned up in Canada and the list goes on!

Italian ponies were sold in Italy, but they were also exported and sold in other parts of Europe including Germany and France :) Macau ponies were sold in Germany and Spain ponies were sold in the UK and the rest of Europe :P

You also have to remember that people went on holiday and brought ponies home :) Also if you have friends/family over seas they might well send a pony over for a birthday or Christmas gift or might even leave one to stay if they came to visit (which is how I ended up with a Powder!)
