Question about original babies - Play & Care

I am wondering if the original babies were ever released only on cards? Not in the play & care boxes? I am asking because I remember getting baby Glory when I was around five and I distinctly *think* I remember finding her on a card in the toy store... She would have come only with a brush or a bottle?

I *think* I got baby Firefly on a card as well, as I don't have any baby accessories from either of these two girls. I know that many of us lost pony accessories over the years, but I was a very peculiar girl and took excellent care of my pony stuff. I have all of baby Blossoms accessories, all of baby North Star, baby Splashes and my newborn twins as well and that is a lot of small stuff in there. But I have no memory of either baby Firefly or baby Glory....? Both baby Glory and baby Firefly has glittery symbols, so they are not the German non-glittery versions either...

Anyway, I am pretty sure myself that I got these girls on cards, but over the years I have found that childhood memories are not necessarily the most trustworthy source of information... and I haven't really found any information on this on the major pony-information sites (Wiki and Dream Valley is where I mainly look for info like this...). If it helps, they are all bought in Norway?

I have a similar memory of getting BBE Baby Gusty on a card sometime in the early 90s with very few accessories here in the US. It's possible they were factory overstock that just got thrown on a card with random accessories. I'm pretty sure they did that in the UK so maybe that's what you got? Some UK pony people could give you better info on that then I ever could!

munchy: that is very possible! Baby Blossom was my first baby pony (can't remember even getting her), so I would have been around five-six years old when getting baby Firefly/baby Glory. I'm born in '82 so this likely happened in '87-88, so a couple of years later than they were actually released. It sounds very likely that it would have been overstock - can't tell you how happy I am to hear this though! This means that I might actually truly remember getting baby Glory and that is super exciting as my childhood memories are getting way too flimsy over the years

I think near the end of the line in some countries, old stock were sold on cards

The original six baby ponies were sold on card in a number of European countries. I'm aware of German and Benelux cards for them, and own three on card myself. They were proper issue rather than overstock.

These are separate from the Play and Care sets, though there is some crossover. The UK had babies CC, Blossom and Applejack in the initial run, then a later issue under the same name included babies Gusty, Ribbon, Lickety and Heart Throb in a number of European countries.

I'm not aware of any bbe sets sold on card, but the FT babies were sold on cards in Holland.

In Denmark you could buy the original six babies either on card or in the play and care set.

Oh my! YES - that is the exact card I remember!!! And of course, that bottle with baby Glory I actually have as well This is so cool...!

I am only aware of the original 6 babies being sold this way and not any of the BBEs And I agree they were available in stores around the same time as the Play n Care lines. How Hasbro around the world liked to confuse us!

I just come back to this thread over and over again to look at those pictures *lol* I know it seems strange but I just have this super clear and vivid memory of getting Glory and I always assumed it was false (since I never seen them sell on cards...).

I had just been to the doctor with my mom, and sometimes - if we were good - she let us get one small toy from the local toy store. I remember my sister had already got NBBE baby Gusty and I soooo wanted a unicorn baby myself. So when my mom told me I could get one toy I just immediately KNEW it had to be a baby pony and the feeling of seeing baby Glory there were just overwhelming. I fell in love instantly, and I don't think I ever been so clear about anything ( I was a very indecisive child). I just had to have that baby pony! She was my most beloved little pony when I was a kid. I always remembered her on a card, so it never made much sense before and I thought maybe it was my mind playing tricks with me (as my mom would never have bought a whole Play n Care set for me just for going to the doctor). I'm so happy to realize that it actually happened!

I'm glad I could help I need to take a pic of my MOC Firefly really.

I think the reason both were available is in Europe in the 80s, toys were really, really expensive.
Might have been slightly more affordable to get the ones on card. I had 1 boxed and 3 carded ones.
