Cleaning a Kitty Kitty Kitten plushie?
« on: June 27, 2013, 06:40:22 AM »
What's the best way to clean a Kitty Kitty Kitten plush? I bought a kitten and it turns out it smells like hamster urine.  The bladder is deflated, maybe popped.  What would be the best way to wash him and also his ribbon that has glitter on it (the ribbon can come off if I undo the pretty bow :/).

Help me destink my kitty!

I would assume you would be able to toss it in a pillowcase and put it in the cycle? A gentle cycle, just not on anything hot <3

I'd stick to hand washing if anything. With those possibly gross water bags, I wouldn't risk the washer. Does it still have it's rump tag? That should give cleaning instructions.

It does have the tag,  I haven't looked at it but I'm betting it'll say surface wash only which a lot of plushies usually say.  I didn't know if anybody has had to clean their kitty and had good results or bad results cleaning it different ways.  Most plushies I have no problem tossing them into the washer but with her bladder being popped/deflated I didn't know if that might be a problem.  Also I wasn't sure if one soap is better than another for animal urine.

I can't wait for him to be clean.  I want to name him Gizmo maybe but right now I'm calling him Mr. Stinkypants. lol  He's currently confined to a plastic bag because he reeks. *shakes head at stinky cat* hehe

I have washed two of them in the washer, in oxy clean and warm water.  with glitter bows and all. But if you don't feel comfortable than you may wanna hand wash it. you might try useing oxy clean carpet and pet stain removal. and scrub her with a tooth brush. let that stay for 4 hours then rinse.
let her Air out in a mesh bag in moving air.

I have not personally put one of them in the washer... But I have used the Nature's Miracle Laundry Boost with success for stinky plush.

I actually happen to have a Kitty Kitty Kitten in the trunk of my car  if you want me to try out the washer first!

I remember my mom always putting mine in the washer. Have you tried undoing some stitching to see if you can get the bag out then sewing it back?

Hamster urine ... that's a new one.  I'd hand wash it personally.

Sure!  Let me know how it goes. :)

I thought about that.  But I'm not sure if I wanted to do that right away.  I had thought about putting a new filler of pouch of pvc pellets in his tummy maybe.  But I didn't think I was going to do that soon but they I realized he stinks so maybe I should do that...
