What's the best way to sell off G3s?
« on: June 11, 2013, 09:49:32 AM »
Basically, I have 80 or so in crates under my bed :( I need them gone, and I desperately need money. I'm saving for a car, and I'm quite weak willed, so have been pony-buying again when I could be saving up instead, so I want to make some money back on ponies I don't want/need.
All the ponies in my trade thread are for sale/trade, (Link in signature) but I don't have time to list and photograph and clean up even more awaiting photos...! So, what's the best way? Advertise on the sale section and say to check my trade thread for G3s and ask for individual prices (like I have been doing, I've been pricing them VERY reasonably as I need them gone!)

So yes, suggestions anyone? Wanna buy? Please shoot me a PM, I'll work with you on LARGE bundles to give multiple discounts, my prices are already VERY low, and all ponies are NM/M unless otherwise stated, but on 10 or more ponies, I'll offer even more off!

Thanks! ^.^

I'd be all over this if international shipping wasn't so high.
I'm not really on here anymore. Email me if you need my for something.

Its not too bad actually, I just sent about 5 G3s for £7.20, but if I am trading with people, and they purchase on top, they only need to pay the extra on top item shipping :)

I checked your thread and you may want to actually put prices with the ponies. Sometimes if ponies aren't priced people will just pass them by and not bother to PM just going on to the next sale thread instead. Putting prices on your page will let people know right away if they can afford the pony and then they will PM if it's right for them.

There is always eBay for selling as well if you are not getting movement on here.

I'm not sure about worldwide but in my area on Facebook there are groups for selling locally. Like Facebook classifieds where you just post a pic with a price and work out with other local people when to meet to trade cash for toys. In my area they are called swap groups and I just sold a bunch of G3 duplicates plus fakie and McD ponies for $80 and it was super easy so you might look into it.

Thanks for the ideas :)
I can't really put prices for every single one as I don't have time, but maybe put the max price for a G3s on my thread is £6 and you would never pay more, minimum price is £2, and baits £1.50. I'm not asking more than that for a single pony, so maybe that'd help? ^.^

Well, you could do it in groups, like. "The following ponies are all £3", and so forth. Also, I personally will do a search in the sales forum for ponies I'm after, so names would probably help. I am afraid that selling will always require that one puts in a little time and effort.

(Feel free to PM me if you have either Soda Float, Snow'el or Midnight Dream in mint condition)

I think that might help, yes :) And also, if I'm being super honest - selling takes time, especially when you are selling stuff that are not very popular at the moment. And G3s are not. I sold mine very cheap, and kept the one I didn't want to sell for much less than what I paid for her.

I do understand the "not having time, but need to sell" dilemma - but that might be one of the reasons why you are having trouble selling as well. If you do not have time to put prices to every single pony it might help to sell them in lots.

hi there,
Im a UK G1 and G3 pony collector and I had also checked your thread, but was put off because there were not prices - it would be embarrasing for me to ask you what the prices were and then to have to say "oh sorry I think thats too expensive" or whatever. People have very different perceptions of G3 value and it would definately help to have them priced up even if its only in batches like Little Fox said :)  I love G3s and bought loads of them new as an adult collector, and have loads more from charity shops, I find them most weekends in local charity shops or (my husband finds them for me!) and we dont pay more than £1.50 for a charity shop pony, so maybe thats the problem - they are commonly found secondhand very cheaply?  It would probably be better if you are hoping to make money to sit on them for 10 years but that wont help your storage problems!

Yes it always good to put a price by them. I am one of those people that will not message if there is no price. I like to see the price when I am looking at the pony. I wish you lots of luck. I listed about 25 of them on ebay last week and sold about 7 of them. I got around 2 to 3 dollars each. They do not seem to bring in much money.

I agree, you really need to have prices listed. I won't PM someone if there aren't prices. I like to know the price before bothering someone :)

I agree with others that names of the ponies and individual prices makes it much easier. Buyers are normally much more interested in sales where a seller has been able to take the time to list things individually as it allows more flexibility in purchase and means you know what money you are looking at before you even pm. You may also get less time wasters.

Unfortunately G3s can be tough to sell right now so unless you are prepared to sell discounted lots, it will probably be a slower sales process. If you just want them gone or just want to make some money then group then so some offers "6 ponies for £10" kind of thing with people able to pick the half dozen ponies they wish.

Unless you have something super rare, most G3s price themselves around the same mark - £2-4 so perhaps if you run through them quickly and mark down where there are issues you will be able to fly through the pricing.

I can move this thread to sales if it is more relevant there for you :)
