G1 plushie question
« on: June 10, 2013, 04:22:21 PM »
I just got a G1 plushie pony from a garage sale this weekend for 50 cents and I'm really excited, but she does need a little tlc. I think her name might be Sundance, she's white with rainbow hair and a sun symbol. Her pupils are pretty scratched and I was thinking of repainting them, is this pony really sought after and would it devalue her? I don't plan on getting rid of her, but if by some chance I didn't want my ponies in the future, I'd feel really bad about devaluing a really sought after plushie.

Also, her hair is a rat's nest, and I was just wondering if the care of their hair is the same as it is for the brushables? I'm really excited to start working on her but I just wanted to make sure of these things before I started any restoration work on her, thanks! And I can take a picture later if it would help.

Does she have wings? She sounds kind of like Starshine. Does she look like any of the plushies on this page?

That's Starshine, Congrats! The regular plushies all retail at about $10-15, and collector's often touch-up pupils, it's hard to find non-scratched ones. I know I always hand-wash, and use fabric softener on their hair. some people take the stuffing out, but I've never had any problems with them not drying, I always dry them in a dry undercover area with good air circulation but limited light. my garage is perfect. Although if you don't have such an area, removing stuffing might have to be the way to go.

Thanks so much for your help! I'll see what I can do to get her looking as good as new again thanks to your tips!

Also, I never knew that there were baby plushies, are they harder to find than the mommies?

i  found my appluase firefly.  and   she had this brown gunk all in her hair. and on her legs so i just tossed her in the washing machine on gentle cycle. (or delicate)  adn let her  get washed. she came out perfecnly  fine.  no  dings tears and she came otu with soft hair.  and her body was soft she was really wet so i stuck her in the dryer for about   5 minutes  just to get a lot of it out and she came out fine,

The babies are super tough to track down unfortunately - especially annoying because of how adorable they are. :)

In theory touching up the eyes will probably devalue them a little - mainly as you are changing the pony from its original condition. However, that being said, this plush doesnt hold a particularly high value anyway and you could well if and when selling in the future find someone who prefers the little improvement over the scratches.

As for her hair. Its the same as with a regular pony - so the regular shampoo/conditioner wraps will work.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi
