Refunding excess postage on Ebay? Paypal fees? *Resolved*
« on: June 02, 2013, 08:18:03 AM »
Hello,
I bought a lot of ponies on ebay a few days ago. The seller posted them yesterday and it cost him £5.00 less than he was quoted on the Royal Mail's website. He has offered to refund me the £5.00 (which I think is nice of him as many people do not bother!), but I don't think he knows how to do it. I have to admit that I am not too certain either. Does anyone know? Also, I know Paypal likes to charge a fee for nearly everything you do. Will he be charged a fee if he tries to send me the money? If so, any idea how much that would be so that I can cover it? I don't mind if it's me that has to pay the fee (well, I do, but you know what I mean), but I don't want him to have to pay it.
Thank you so much for any help  :lovey:

I think what he needs to do is go into the Paypal payment, and there should be an option there to give a refund. It'll let him type in the amount he wants to refund.

For the fees, it shouldn't charge anything extra to do it as a partial refund of an already-made payment. It's already charged the fees on the original payment, so it doesn't charge any additional ones.

Or he could just send a paypal payment to you if the partial refund wont work--it should tell him how much the fees are and can ballance it accordingly :)

I third this being the easiest option. And it is a breath of fresh air to hear you were dealing with a good seller.

I've refunded partial shipping before. Paypal doesn't charge anything extra, but the seller does get some of the original fees back in the refund, so it's a win/win for all!

Thank you everyone for all the help. I suggested he tried the refund option and that worked.

Agreed! It seems rare to find someone so honest on ebay these days, most would have just kept the money.
