detailed art help?

So I'm doing a Harry Potter custom for a friend of mine and I'm trying to figure out how to do the symbol for Gryffindor on the butt. it's so detailed and I'm worried it's out of my skill set (I haven't tried I could be wrong. I've mimicked stuff successfully before) anyway any tips on how to do this? I was trying to think of a way to trace the outline or something but I'm not sure how I would even do that? any tips or suggestions? I really want this to look great it'll probably be my first "sale"

I haven't done it for quite a while, but I had a trick that might work here. You'll need a superfine pen or marker, small scissors and a transparency. A clear report cover will work too, as long as it's thin and stiff. Trace your image onto the trasparency and cut it out. Then trace the outline onto the pony.

I really don't know how to describe the next part, but I'll give it a shot...

For your particular Gryffindor image, cut out the outer border in small sections, tracing the bottom edge of each section onto the pony as you go. Repeat with the lion and the lettering. It should start to make sense as you go. Once you get the hang of it, you can transfer images with crazy detail!

I should make a proper tutorial of this, but I can't for the next few weeks. I broke all 4 fingers on my right hand at work and I'm all bandaged up for a while.

You could either follow Silverdragon's instructions or you could simplify the symbol.  I'm sorry I don't have more advice!

I think I would probably simplify the symbol too, unless you are insanely good at painting teeny details.    Maybe just the lion?

I think it looks amazing.  It's hard to get detail into that small of a space, but I love that you still got some of the lion's shading in the symbol.  Well done!
