Phantom of the Opera faceup
« on: May 22, 2013, 06:35:48 PM »
So far at least. It's inspired the book by Gaston Leroux and the Lon Chagney black and white horror film. I'll be making a full face mask for him too, but I'm still trying to figure out the best way to make such a complicated removable accessory. I have the sculpy, but I'm wondering how I can press it onto the face firmly for a fit without it sticking to it. Any advice would be appreciated.

Any advice would be great!!

Plastic wrap over his face while you fit the mask?  :wonder:

He looks great so far though! Can't wait to see him all done!

Thank you Cate, I'm honestly really nervous showing this. I know I'm not good at repaints, but I want to get better, and you get better by doing.

The problem with sculpy is how sticky it is. If I cover the face with plastic wrap, the sculpy will be distorted once I try and remove it. Of course, I could experiment to see how it goes. I've also considered tin foil.

I second plastic wrap!  I love small magnets for keeping masks on.

Hmm. Tinfoil might be the better option for you then, since you could bake the sculpey right on the tinfoil.

OH! OR you could cover his head in the plastic wrap, spray a little Pam on the plastic, so the sculpey won't stick when you remove it? I'm not sure what the Pam would do to the inside of the mask, but I would assume it would just bake off? It might be worth a shot doing it with a smaller piece to experiment and see...

I will see how sculpy bakes with pam on it *giggles* it'll smell nice and fried!!!
