Has anyone tried making a mold for plastic figures before? How difficult is it? Any tips?

What exactly are you trying to cast?  Something similar to an action figure? Or something that doesnt have joints?

Quite a few use resin to make things so I'm sure someone will have suggestions for you.

Definitely depends on what you are trying to cast and the complexity of it. Depending on what you cast will determine what casting method you should use :)

Thank you! ^^ I'm trying to debate the cost-effectiveness of casting my own princess blind bag ponies to paint, vs. buying them on Taobao (where they're about $2 each, plus shipping, agent fees, etc). So a small, solid figure, no joints.

Just remember if you cast them you can have issues since you are casting a copy righted item.  Might be better to see if someone can sculpt one for you to have cast then run that risk.

I think paying $2 a pony is going to be much easier than casting your own-  there is an incredible amount of time/effort/expense and finishing that goes with casting your own molds.
