Quick question about a damaged neck plug
« on: May 11, 2013, 10:39:24 AM »
So I recently bought a couple of baited Ghoulias from a member here, and looking at the neck plug of one, it seems stretched/strained at the bottom. It was slightly twisted, and when I tried gently, it was pretty easy to twist straight again...

So it's kinda thin and slightly pliable, and I'm worried it might break easily once I come to customise the doll and reassemble her. >< Is this likely to be a problem, and does anyone have any ideas on how to reinforce the plastic if so? I have some Milliput if that might be a good idea?

The other baited Ghoulia I bought still has her head on, so now I'm really worried about removing it in case hers is also weak... x.x

I had this same problem with a Venus I had. I remember Mermaid_Splash recommended a kind of resin/glue/epoxy/polymer that dries around and is flexible and durable. E6000 I think it was called??

She showed me pictures in one of the previous MH threads that got locked, so it'll take a while for me to fish it out. >,<

Here we go:

Ohh so this is a pretty bad thing? ; _ ; I really wish the seller had mentioned it, I probably wouldn't have bought the bodies... I figured I'll buy prepared dolls for my first customs to make it simple. >< I was worried about ripping the scalp or breaking the neck plug... bleh.

Thankyou so much for digging the link out for me! I really appreciate it! I live in the UK so I'm not sure how difficult that stuff is to get here, I've never seen it in a store but I've never really looked that hard... D: I might have some similar glue already, will have to look into it.

Thanks for the help! n_n

Edit ~ Ah, the pictures have since been deleted... Was hers a plug that had been snapped completely then?

Eeep, Forgot about this thread. >,<;

From what I remember, it was her Howleen and she had a "stretched" out neck plug, kinda like the situation you and I have. From how I would describe it from the pictures and the way she explained, it's like a cast that covers the plug/stem and stays in its shape once dried and doesn't bend or break easily because it's so durable so it was like it was new.

From how I'd describe my Venus's head with the problem, her head would flop about, and just slowly waving her would have her head flopping around.

If I were you, I'd just remove the neck plug altogether and replace it.  It doesn't seem hard, and you can make it so the head is easily removable later.  Here's a good tutorial:

I love people like this!  I've got a collection of links I've collected over the years.  They are my "What if....?" tutorials.  Can never be too prepared
I won't be checking this site anymore for messages.  If you need me, you can contact me at the MHArena :bigups:

Is there a good solution for when you accidentally pull the neck plug out of the torso?  Because that happened to one of my werecats.  I superglued it back in, but that means her head won't tilt anymore. :/

Yes you can totally fix this!  E600 glue around the twisted portion of the neck plug will stiffen it up so they don't have a wobbly head and will keep it from getting worse.

I don't know what happened to the pics, but if you just drop a bead of glue over the plastic and let it dry it should solve all problems.  I have personally done this to several dolls with near perfect results.

Thanks so much for all your help guys! :D I will try the glue thing first I think, I'd rather not go to loads of effort with it considering I bought the baited dolls to make this easy! x.x
Really appreciate all the links and comments n__n I'll update this thread when I eventually get around to finishing the doll, and let everyone know how it goes.  ^.^

CleverLC ~ I guess I'd go with the new neck plug thing linked by Aeryala, if it were me:  ^.^

^this! I love having these 'just in case' tutorials and links on hand, you never know when someone will need them! Looks like E6000 would be good to have around for a lot of things.
