Bought a flat iron... Need temp help
« on: May 10, 2013, 04:18:35 PM »
'Cause I have frizzed ponies!  One small problem, it's Celsius.  What temp should I use please and thanks?  Don't ask how this thing ended up in this state, I'm still giggling about it.  There was a choice of 2 of them, only one seemed to have temp settings.  No directions of course...

I use mine at 115 Celsius - that's the lowest it goes. If I bump it up to the next setting of 170, it melts the hair if I'm not quick enough!! 115 will still melt hair, but I can be a bit slower with that setting than a higher one.

I use mine on about 110, but can go as high as 120 without melting hair. I should mention though that mine doesn't have ceramic plates, it uses a kind of thermic mirrored glass which heats up differently to ceramic plated ones :)

Metal plates here.  The lowest it goes is 80 C.  Thanks, that gives me a starting point.

I got an old one from my little sister, it doesn't say what the temperatures are but I use it on the lowest setting (1, with 6 being the highest), it feels hot enough for me. :D (I have to be careful not to touch the hair immediately after or it burns my fingers... but I haven't had any problems with melting, even if the hair gets stuck for a few seconds.)

For comparison, Fimo clay is baked at 110 Celcius. DH nylon should take this temp easily, but they say Hasbro ponies don't necessarily take baking... On the other hand, you would usually leave the pony in for some time. But you can definitely boil hair, so I'd say up to 100 is definitely safe.

No real settings - 80-200 is all it says.  So, a bit past 80.  Melted a few strands, but she's a SLH, so no big deal.  Much less frizz though!  Thanks all!!
