Question about Rehair
« on: April 30, 2013, 12:32:54 PM »
Hello,

I have never rehaired a pony before and am looking to rescue a G1 Apple Jack without a tail on Ebay.  I was wondering how would I be able to do this?  I looked at the Dolly Hair website, but which color would I get for her?  Is there a pony color-matching guide somewhere that I could refer to?

Thank you for your help as I attempt this :)

There is a search function on the DH page, but it's hiding from me ATM.  However, the color match is Golden Delicious nylon.  :)

You guys are awesome - thank you!  Will I need to purchase a washer or tools or anything?   And it looks like one hank is enough.

Never done this before and figured I would try to be simple about it and look up a tutorial.

Various tutorials.  I've only used the re-hair tool, but it's easy.   Exacto knife handle, sewing needle, wire cutters.  Somewhere is instructions for making the tool.

DOY!!  For just the tail, thread to hold the hair together, needle nose pliers or hemostat to pull it through the hole.  Zip ties to keep it in place.
Can whoever borrowed my brains please return?  :frog:

My brain is fried today too.  Will I need to take her head off?  Or is there a way to do it without getting that involved? Lol!

I think if you're redoing the tail takeing the head off is the simplest way (and the only way I know) you'll need a pair of zip ties too to make new 'tail washers'

The best way is to remove her head. Generally that is not too difficult of a task. :) I select the amount of necessary hair, wrap a twist tie around the middle of it and pull it in with a pliers. I then use a small zip tie to replace the twist tie. Along to with another, larger zip tie behind it to keep the tail in.

Thank you, All!

She does look happier!  Not too bad for my first time - and yes, I now feel like I can rescue all the G1 ponies that are missing their tails!

Not ready to conquer any missing manes yet, though!
