Hello, everyone! Tina here!

When I received Colorscapesart's email, I was very confused. There are currently three spools of virgin snow hair in the spinning room (these are the spools that are being spun on the machine to fulfill customers' orders), and I ran tests on all three spools a couple of days ago. I grabbed a swatch of hair from each of the three virgin snow spools, and I also grabbed a swatch of the color "tennis ball" as a control, because "tennis ball" is one of the brand new colors, from the newest shipment.

Well, all four swatches dyed perfectly. I boiled a little bit of water, added some liquid rit dye in the color "scarlet," added a bit of salt, and dipped each swatch into the dyebath. I let each swatch sit on a paper towel for a couple of minutes before rinsing them in the sink. After rinsing them, I laid them on a clean paper towel, and here they are:

So, needless to say, I am STILL very confused! I don't know what to make of the situation, but all I can say is that all three spools of virgin snow that are currently in the spinning room clearly do not have any problems with accepting dye, and whenever I pull a new virgin spool from the stockroom, I will test it first to make sure that it can accept dye before I send it out to any customers.

To any of you who have had white streaky problems, I am totally willing to replace the hair that was faulty. Please email me at [email protected] and let me know.

I would really like to get to the bottom of this, but I don't know what else to do, other than run the dye tests that I've already run. However, if someone can send me some of the hair that is not able to accept dye, then I can run some additional tests on that hair to try to get a definitive explanation. As far as I can tell, I do not have any undyeable virgin snow hair in my possession!! Very strange. So sorry to everyone for any inconvenience!!

Tina

Is it possible that it was a recent, previous spool?  It seems like we all got the hair about a month ago.

Is it possible that it was a recent, previous spool?  It seems like we all got the hair about a month ago.

That's the only possible explanation, right? But what makes that explanation so strange is this: in my private email to you, I told you that as far as the virgin snow spools that are currently in the spinning room, I have two spools from the new shipment and one spool from the old shipment. Well, I was mistaken! The new shipment did not include any virgin snow hair at all! So all of the virgin snow hair in my possession is from the second-to-last shipment. All from the same batch! All extruded at the same time... theoretically, anyway.

So, I can only assume that when they shipped this virgin snow hair to me, one spool of white polypropylene somehow got mixed into the shipment, even though I didn't order any polypropylene, and that's what you guys ended up receiving, with it getting blended into your nylon hanks! That's the best explanation I can come up with. I did JUST recently finish off a spool of virgin snow, so I guess that was the undyeable spool, and it no longer exists. SO WEIRD, though, that no one noticed/alerted me to it until after it was all gone, right? I mean, what are the odds of that?

At any rate, all new spools of virgin snow that are brought into the spinning room will be tested for dyeability. It kind of makes sense to me that IF a straggler polypropylene spool was somehow mistakenly included in my shipment, then the color would have been virgin snow. They probably manufacture a lot of it, in both nylon and polypropylene, while the other colors that I ordered are more specific, and were only manufactured for my order.

Another weird thing: you guys all got the undyeable hair about a month ago. But that spool that I just finished up was around for at least four months!

Like I said, email me please and let me know what I owe you guys. It's my fault that this undyeable hair was sent to you, but it never occurred to me to test it for dyeability before sending it out. It's a neverending learning process, I guess!

I got 3 hanks of virgin snow just this last Saturday.  I can dye a bit of each if needed.

BAM! I thought the same thing... that's super awesome. I've been watching this thread even though I'm a newbie at dying and haven't dyed any hair myself... and was stoked to hear from you Tina!
