Removing Alicorn wings to get to tail on G4 Luna?
« on: May 01, 2013, 05:15:43 PM »
Sorry to ask this question again, I'm sure it's been asked lots of times by now
I picked up two sets of 2 pack princess ponies today. I wanted Celestia and Pinkie Pie as I don't have them yet, but ended up with two Luna and Rarity packs (who I already have, so there are now three of them!). Without thinking, I removed one from the box just now thinking it would be nice to customise an Alicorn.
What I had forgotten until about five seconds after she was out of the box, was that the tails on Alicorns (like Luna) are a 'nightmare' to access (if you'll pardon the pun  :P)
I remember reading that you have to access the tail from under the wings. Any advice on the best way to go about that? I know if I just stick a knife in there I'm going to butcher it  Any easier/less brutal ways?

This is the best tutorial I have seen for it, and it was written by a user around here I believe.

I've tried a few different ways to go about removing the wings and haven't had much luck. This has worked best for me. I also found it became a little easier by keeping the pony plastic warm with hot water. But It is still pretty easy to butcher the wings.

Thank you so much, Kitkumi!  :)
I was afraid there wouldn't be an easier way to go about this... I can see this going wrong and a lot of sculpting required to get it right again
Thank you so much for the link, it's easier looking at a picture :)

Edit: Wow, I don't believe it! Her head popped off so easily! The other G4's I've customized recently have been an absolute nightmare to get the heads off of (took me about 30 mins on my first one!).. Maybe she'll cooperate with me?

Edit again:
Well, the good news is her wings are out, and they're more intact than I thought they'd be. I slipped into her body in a couple of places, but they were very minor and I'm sure they won't be a problem. I did have a minor slip on one of her wings, but again I'm pretty sure I can cover that up. The only major damage is to my knife (snapped the handle in half!) and my hand (several small cuts). All in all considering what I was picturing, it didn't go too badly. But my goodness, they did *not* want to come out. And that tail...  >_<
I have been yanking and pulling and slicing, at it does not want to go anywhere.
