Importance of Pat. Pending??
« on: August 11, 2013, 03:35:12 PM »
So, I was going through my bait box looking for babies in the Ember pose. I found 3 that do NOT have Pat. Pending on their foot. Does that mean anything in particular? Like are they more special/ sought after? They still have symbols so I -might- be able to clean them up and rehair them if needed and they be in decent shape. Or am I safe to just go ahead and bait them? One is Baby Stocking, one is Baby Apple Delight and one is a baby with rainbow hair and a rainbow symbol.
TIA!

I believe a lot of Non-pat pending ponies are Spanish, but I could be wrong about that.

With many ponies, it just has to do with when they were released. They are not any more sought after because of it. Baby Sister Apple Delight has a Hong Kong Pat Pend version and a China Non-Pat Pend version. Hong Kong tends to be primarily the US [earlier] release.

I am not sure about baiting a Rainbow baby though. If that is who you're talking about. :)

Hmm, I guess the baby is Baby Sunribbon. She has chopped hair and is dirty. Not sure of her true body condition at the moment though she was originally bought as bait.
If her symbols are decent should I just rehair her and sell her you think?

There is not any significance to it really. All a lack of pat pend does is indicate when a pony was manufactured - i.e. it was manufactured after the patent was approved for the design. Or to be accurate the pat pend stamp was removed quite a significant time after the patent was approved. Its just that there was clearly a designated period during which the stamp was removed from the entire line. Because it was removed during a year of production - you have ponies with it, ponies without it and some ponies which both have it and dont have it depending on when they were manufactured that year :)
