I'd take criticism for sure. If it would help me and further me, go for it!! But I agree someone must specifically ask for it, or have a "how can i improve on this" thread. You only post in it if you want criticism, and will not get offended by it.

Well, I made some posts with some of my first customs where I asked for some honest feedback, and people actually did give me a little bit of help with painting the base, because I had issues with that...

I would like honesty, but at the same time, they're works of art so, - it's kind of hard to always be able to have any critiques for people. Most of the customs I look at and just think "Wow!!" :dropjaw:" and half the time it's someone who's like, "This is one of my first customs..." - so, I think maybe we are always too hard on ourselves? :)

that, my dear, is the burden that all artists bear. we are all our own worst critics. I know I beat myself up and down over every little thing

I am hard on myself also, but am also learning, and I do tend to pick up many flaws on my work myself, so that being said, so would prefer criticism only if im asking for it. Also would only give it if asked for it. You may not think your critisisms been taken harshly as you wont see it here, But people get offended really easily by things that are "written" as you don't know how they are saying it, like in test messages, you don't hear the tone its being said, so can take offence when none was intended. I hope that makes sense.
But point for me is, sometimes Id like some pointers, other times I don't want any if I already think its crap for what ever reason, but only as im hard on myself. So if I want advice or input id ask, and if don't want it I don't ask.

I am not very good at getting feedback. I have thin skin. Honestly, if i am guilty of looking for good points in a custom or not posting. I figure I post to showcase my progression. I know I am still learning and I figure the best way to improve is to practice. But I find I am discouraged in my practicing when I recieve very negative comments. Many times I am trying really hard to follow a guide and I just am not quite there yet. So a few tips would be awesome but just a blanket your work has this problem hurts my tiny fragile ego. ;)
I'm not really on here anymore. Email me if you need my for something.

One reason I don't bother with constructive criticism unless it's asked for is that I know it isn't always needed. Sometimes tips and suggestions from others are helpful and make you improve faster, but in the end it's practice that matters.

I have always been proud of every single custom upon finishing them. (Of course each one has had its flaws and frustrations, but if the overall result is something I'm not happy with, I keep working on it before calling it finished.) For example, I used to think already a few years ago that my FBRs were rather smooth. Well, looking at those customs now, I can assure you they were anything but smooth. I do better now. ;) Yet I do realize I have still much room to improve, and it's fine. As long as I'm happy with my current work NOW, it's all that matters. In the future I can look back and say, "well it isn't that great, but it's not rubbish either, I used to be so proud of that one". And because of that, they will always have the sentimental value, no matter how much you have improved since. But if you're not happy with your work now, and are at loss as to how to fix it, then it may be beneficial to ask if others' views and see if they can give you tips on what to do differently.

I love seeing comparison pics with old and new art. I love those "show me your first & most recent custom" threads! I think they're also really encouraging, it's really reassuring to see that the "masters" were not perfect from beginning. ;) Someone with an artistic background may be able to craft stunning ponies right from the start, but people like that are definitely a minority in the custom pony community. In cases like that you have to remember they have acquired certain skills somewhere else, and now translate it to ponies. And I'm sure even they improve over time! We all learn by doing.

Okay, can anyone tell me how to learn to write more briefly and efficiently? XD Also, @BC: LOL and thanks!

I'd appreciate honest and constructive criticism as well.
It hurts seeing that nobody even cares to comment on my customs. I take this as a very negative criticism where people don't even want to tell me where to improve or what went wrong.
