Ebay policy issue what if anything should I do?
« on: April 25, 2013, 10:15:55 PM »
Ebay sent me a very upsetting letter telling me i have violated their picture policies because my images are not 500 pixels on the longest side. This would cause me to flip out only they are referencing auctions that ended over a month ago. I size pictures according to how they will look and I am careful to make sure they are detailed enough for anyone who sees them. I size in paint, I am not familiar with sizing by pixel width. Is this something I should be upset about? and since when has ebay micro managed their picture requirements? I am running some pretty crucial auctions right now and I'm afraid ebay will now swoop in and remove them.

past auctions that ebay has the issue with:

The Letter:

Dear ------------,

We're writing to let you know that one or more of your listings need to be updated to meet eBay's picture quality requirements. Please see the list for requirements below.

It's important that you update these listings and any others that don't meet the requirements right away. If listings aren't revised before July 1, 2013, they may be subject to removal and can't be relisted.

Picture Requirements:
-- Every listing must have at least one photo.
-- Stock photos can only be used for brand new items—not used items.
-- Don't use borders on your photos.
-- Pictures must be at least 500 pixels on the longest side.
-- Watermarks are allowed for ownership and attribution, but not marketing.

Consistently good photos are an important part of the shopping experience on eBay and we appreciate your cooperation to keep buyers coming back. High quality photos also go a long way to help sell your items.

As always, thanks for selling on eBay.

Listing(s) not meeting eBay's picture requirements:
Photos smaller than 500 pixels on longest side

Oh boy!

I have been dreading this but did not know of anyone who had actually got an email pertaining to it.  I am going to say from my total understanding of it that you should be ok till July. Because that is when that new policy goes into effect.

I actually am worried about it because I use a third party listing service.  In which I crop my pictures, thus making my pixels change.  I am going to try something today actually in which I change my camera settings to see if it changes anything, size wise when I crop.

I will try to update when I know or learn anything else concerning this. But as for now I would not worry about it.

I'm just wondering why you folks crop? Photos do have a zoom feature for the little details that need visibility.

Because I have a photo booth with accents in the back. I don't want the whole picture(back ground), even when I use my zoom. Plus with Auctiva the pictures blow up supersize when clicked on. So I like a nice clean picture.

Oh good grief I can't believe another thing. I know how to do this but didn't know anything about it.  I never pay attention to that so, I guess I will have to.  If your auctions are over then its pretty late for them to be fussing over the photos LOL, but at least you know now.

I usually have to crop my pictures for them to upload, even when they're within the restrictions, it's soooo annoying! I have to try to upload, delete, then upload the *slightly* smaller pic, and it works. Ebay is such a pain in the rump these days!

Here's the thing that stands out - they're complaining about ENDED auctions. Auctions that are over, gone, bye bye!  Why on earth would they worry about them?

Its a bit silly of them to start complaining now about auctions that already ended some time back   I guess as long as you figure out how to get pics the right size by July you should be ok  - I wouldnt worry about those ended auctions  ;)
