Buying shorts?
« on: April 06, 2013, 08:02:29 PM »
With spring on its way, followed by summer, I have realized that I have one pair of shorts I like!  Thus, I need to buy more.  Problem is, buying pants and shorts is always an adventure in futility for me, as I have a high hip to waist ratio, and thus shorts which fit me in the hip gap in the back.  I wear an extra small to small in the waist and a medium in the hips!  I was wondering if anyone had any ideas where I could find shorts that fit?  It's extra tricky because I like tailored shorts, rather than stretchy ones.  Have to make things difficult! :P

Thanks in advance!

What about buying ones that fit in the hips and having them taken in (or doing it yourself, if you sew).

It adds a little to the price, but that was they'll be tailored to your body perfectly!

I used to have this problem, and it's probably the fact that I took a middle ground that I have sciatica (sp?) and my work pants now give me so much pain! go for the hip measurement, and have the taken in, most definitely!

I have big hips as well, and I also need shorter length shorts since I'm a petite.  I've had the best luck with ones labelled "curvy fit" or made of "stretch" denim or fabric (they are tailored but the fabric has some give, so that helps with the fit).

ugh ... shorts ... i gave up on them years ago ... can't find any that go below my hoohaa ... :\

i know my sense of fashion isn't about showing the world everything so i've had to resort to the "old lady stores" (which really aren't lol) like Christopher Banks/Macy's/etc

and yeah go for the hip fit and have them tailored

I agree with the above. I rarely ever wear shorts honestly. Most of the time I roll up my regular pants into capris xD

Yeah, I hate most of the juniors shorts too because they're way too short! If I wanted to worry about bending over, I'd wear a mini skirt!

I found one pair at a thrift shop that look like they're rolled up, which makes them longer. They're super stretchy too, so they work on my hippy self. The brand is Car Mar. That's pretty much the only pair that works on me.

I hate shorts shopping, too...and jeans shopping, also, for that matter.  I don't mind shorter-shorts that much (as long as they aren't just like glorified underwear lol) but I do like a slightly higher waist.  It's hard to find anything that fits properly....OR if it fits in the store, after wearing it one day, they're all stretched out.  That's annoying!

I agree that if you can find some that fit you pretty well, get the rest modified for you by someone who can sew.  I think the extra cost will be well worth it in the end to be happy in a pair of shorts!

Does anyone LIKE buying shorts?  LoL.  What a pain!

Ha, thanks for all the advice!  I have a sewing machine, so I might try taking them in at the waist.

It's taken me pretty much 5 years to find a brand of jeans that fit.  Unfortunately, it's only one style, so they don't have shorts for me!
