Buying A Doll & Selling the Parts: Called...?
« on: April 11, 2013, 03:06:58 PM »
I was reading BarbieBeauties's blog and she brought up when people buy dolls then split them into parts and sell the parts seperately. My question is, is there a widely used term for when people do this? "Split" gets used when two or more agree to split up a doll but what about when an Ebay seller does it?

Harvesting? lol I call it harvesting when I use one doll for parts to fix another doll that is in better condition.

In the asian ball jointed doll hobby, it's called splitting. Mostly because the doll is bought between any number for people, each buying a part of the body. One takes the head, one takes the body/ If it's a fantasy doll like Soom Monthly dolls, they come with fantasy animal parts like wings, a second sleepy head clothing and tails.

Some people buy the doll as a fullset... with clothing, shoes and accessories, they then split it up and sell everything separately.

I don't know if eBay has a term, since a lot of people buy big lots of items, keep what they want and sell the rest.

What I mean is like when they buy, say, Scaris Rochelle, and sell
* Her suitcase for $5
* The nude doll for $15
* Her dress for $4
* Her shoes for $5
* Her stockings for $3
* Her hat for $2.50

Personally, I call it "parts-ing out". That's the term used when someone buys a car and then sells the parts indivudually, and what some people do with dolls is pretty much the same thing.

Parting out or selling for parts sounds like a much better term.

Yeah, sounds about right.
I guess there is no  agreed-to term that everybody online knew about but then then, though XD
