ducks grow fast so more pics

I can't believe these guys are almost 3 weeks old. They're huge. They're two handers now if you pick them up. They're just starting to get feathers. They're going to outgrow their playpen. Don't mind the watery mess on the floor, they make a huge mess every time their pen is changed or their water is changed. We've learned that ducks like to chase a laser pointer mae for cats so I'll have to try and get a video. Also, they want to chase my dog's tail when it wags (we were trying to socialize them with dogs the other day). I'm back to thinking pekin and pekin mixes. 1has a black dot on his head and back, don't look like runners.

I confess to not knowing enough about waterfowl - do the different colours of their bills mean anything?  I think I heard drakes have one colour and ducks another, but I'm not sure (I know it's true for budgies, but that's the extent of my bird owning experience right there).

Ducks love chasing flies, so that's what's with the laser pointer and tail obsession, they're much like chickens in that regard. Ducks raised alone with dogs tend to be more aggressive than dogs, but a lot like you have should be fine, I've had ducklings on their own grow up to be rather good guard animals, (better than my dogs, and this was females as well) very protective of me and my yard.

We think they might be mostly boys due to their fluffy tails, but we won't know until the adult tail feathers grow in. The beak colors don't indicate gender on ducks. They should all be orange within a few weeks. Ducklings aparently can go between orange and pink the first few weeks but will be orange completely once they can graze on greens because its from a nutrient called lutine.
